Windows 8 Install corrupted

All right, I'll try to give as much information as possible.

1. I have currently two hard drives plugged into my computer that I'll name (A) and (B)

2. Before the problem :
(A) was partitioned half into a windows ultimate 64 bit and half into windows 8 Pro 64 bit
(B) was partitioned into one windows 8 Pro 64 bit partition.

3. I am currently running on (B) but it's connected and I can see (A)'s file and interact with some but obviously not those protected.

So what happened is I started experience some disk usage issue so I did what most forum said

I put the paging file size to my ram

I changed the power settings

I ran a dskchk (no errors found)

I removed the file indexing

I removed the paging file size

Nothing really helped so I thought of unplugging (B) which didn't helped so I thought it might have been the multiple partitions that was causing the problem.

So I went into aomei partition assistant, formatted window 7's partition and merged it with windows 8.

Now when I boot my computer on drive (A) it still me the choice between windows 7 and windows 8

If I choose 7 it gives me a black screen saying something is missing (which is normal since the partition has been formatted)

If I choose 8 it takes a long time to load gets me to the log-in screen where my icon has disappeared but my username remains.

If enter the wrong password it still recognizes it's wrong.

None of the two buttons at the bottom works (ergonomics? and exit)

Login in loads for a while and then either black screens me or leaves it hanging without the loading icon.

Safe mode leads to a black screen

Auto repair doesn't find any errors

And try to refresh my windows 8 tells me to go into the actual drive of the OS which I do believe I'm on.

I don't know what to do.

If there's more info I can give be sure to ask.

I'd like to keep as many files as possible and I didn't even want to refresh for a while because I was afraid of losing my applications.

Help?

Are you talking about this software: Powerful Partition Manager Software for Free for Windows disk and partition. ?
Have you asked them?

External partition managers use the Master Boot Record to store the boot info they need to localize the Operating Systems and load them properly. If the MBR is screwed up, both W7 and W8 will have issues booting.

Can you post a screenshot of the message about something missing in your W7 load?
Have you tried an external boot loader CD, like Hirens, in order to run some diagnostics? That will probably give you access to the files...

Yes, it was that AOMEI partition manager.

I don't know if it's the MBR because I used EasyBCD to be able to boot that partition from this drive (it wasn't my goal but I was trying to fix it's boot and I instead added a second boot option to this drive) which still brings me to the login screen with the same no icon/ broken buttons/ black screen and everything problems.

I'll give Hirens a shot and get back on that.

So I<m pretty bad at this (I don<t know what I<m doing in here) but from Hirens I booted partedMagic and in it I ran some test from gParted and am running right now from testdisk and Disk Health and it seems both my drives have errors but since (B) works fine I<ll only concentrate on (A) for now.

I can<t remember if I can boot safe mode with console on (A) so I'll try that (also if you haven't realized this os hasn't the right keyboard configuration for me.) and see if I can do the recommended chckdsk although I doubt it'll find anything.

I'll also give you the details of the other tests when done (few hours because 2tb drive)

This will delete your customizations with the Partition manager

I am pretty sure this tutorial is applicable to your situation, with some considerations like using the correct disk, either for 7 or for 8.
MBR - Restore Windows 7 Master Boot Record - Windows 7 Help Forums

The aim is to reset the MBR to ONE OS allowing you to BOOT in to it.

I recommend you make notes of any error messages and repost them if needed.

Somehow I doubt it has anything to do with the MBR seeing as I can boot windows 8 partially but I'll give it a try. Unless I'm missing something.

Well it didn't help. I ran some more automatic repairs which gave me.

Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem.

Repair action: System files integrity check and repair
Result: Failed. Error code = 0xa1
Time taken = 91454 ms

on (A)

Also I realized that the black screen I get after "logging in on (A)" is actually windows 8 as I can CTRL+ALT+DEL but the two bottom button still don't work and I can't open the task manager to try to run a CMD

BUT

I was able to switch user into an administrator account I had for a while where I WAS able to open the task manager but still nothing else would load and loading explorer.exe only gives me the background which I can right+click but creating new files don't appear and personalize and other control panel options don't work.

I also could run a CMD but I wouldn't know what to do from here.

I was also able to run my windows 8 64 bit CD but at the select which files to keep it didn't give me any other option than none.

ALSO apparently I forgot to write that on (A) my first partition is windows 7 ultimate

Well, then assuming you have a backup of your files I suggest you wipe your drive thoroughly and then begin installing W7 and then W8. Microsoft can handle dual boot, provided you install the OS in order lower - > upper versions.

I see no immediate alternative solution to this. You could spend a few hours trying to reset or hack your MBR with bootsect commands or trying to reset the options in that software your use, but so far, you have not said that you looked for support at their site. I have no clue what it does to the MBR or what to expect from that softwares behaviour.

If you really want more than one OS installed and do not want to mess with MBR based solutions, I suggest you look in to a Virtual OS Solution like VirtualBox, which is free and very competent. You can even use it to try out multiboot scenarios.

Oh no I don't really care about windows 7, I'm just trying to get my windows 8 running and keeping as many files and most importantly any preferences set to any program.

Plus I don't really have a drive large enough to back up my files to.

I've tried contacting them but the "forums" don't allow for too long of a post so I'm shortening the post while trying not to leave information out.
