Cannot Open Power Change Advanced Power Settings Link

This is a computer I have put together which was running Windows 7 and has been upgraded and running Windows 8 for two weeks with no problems. When I went to review the advanced power settings nothing happens when I click on the link for change advanced power settings. You can see the screen flash very quickly but the power options dialogue does not appear. Any idea what applet runs this dialogue so I might try running it manually? Any ideas on troubleshooting this? Thanks for any insight.

Just to be clear, have you tried it via Control Panel> Power Options> Change Plan Settings (link)> Change Advanced Power Settings (link)>

Yes. I did exactly as you have indicated. When you click on that link - nothing.... I am an administrator on this PC.

But you were able to click on the previous Change Plan Settings Link? If so, are you using a 3rd-party Power Manager that was provided by your mobo or pre-built manufacturer? If so, do you have the option to switch to Windows Power Management? BTW, what are your system specs?

Thanks for the help. I built a system using the ASrock Extreme 3 Gen 3 MB with 8 GB of ram. I am using the power plan suggested by Asrock but under Windows 7 I could always go into advanced power settings to make changes. Yes, I am able to click on the change plan settings link.

I'll betcha the ASRock Power Plan is restricting you from accessing that link via the Windows 8 Power Management Plan. I can't explain why you were able to access it in Windows 7 but I can only suggest that you do a test switch to let Windows manage you power plan and I'll betcha that will work or just try navigating through the ASRock Power Manager to see if you can get to the same location. Good luck.

OK - I will try that and post back later. I believe the Asrock power settings is just a standard power plan with their name. What is your thought about a possible power management driver issue? I am assuming that Windows 8 loaded the correct drivers on install. The Asrock website lists updated drivers for the MB. I may try that as well.

I have an ASRock motherboard as well and I do not use their Power Mnagement as Windows 8 is quite adequate for my purposes. However, I can remember one instance where I had two Power Management Plans available (one 3rd-party and Windows inherent) and somewhere there is an option to select to "Let Windows manage my power plan" but I don't remember whether it was on the Windows side or the 3rd-party side. Anyway, I selected it and all was OK. Thereafter, I deleted the 3rd-party plan. However, since your power management plan may include a specific ACPI driver, it could leave you with an unidentified device in device manager but the Windows Power Plan should work just fine. You would be able to get rid of that unrecognized device by installing just the 3rd-party ACPI driver and not the associated software. I can only offer additional help if you get stuck but I think you'll be fine.

Solved

You are correct. I made some adjustments to the ASRock power scheme and the next time I re-booted I was able to switch to another scheme and get it to make the advanced changes. Thanks for the help!!!
