    Random skips/lags in video playback

Well I guess this is where this issue should be posted. Sorry if this is a sore subject but I've done all my searching, and they all come up with the solution of "update your drivers man." All my drivers are up to date.

So anyways, while playing movies (which are stored on a Maxtor 250gb HD), I am experiencing skips or chops every so often. Sometimes it will get so bad it won't even play the movie, it just pixellates and cuts out sound. But that's only happened one or two times while watching Oblivion in HD.

I have tried using different media players: the Video App skips, Windows Media Player skips, and VLC is just plain awful.

I'm not a tech whiz by any means so please excuse me if I don't give enough info.

    Computer specs:
Movies stored on Maxtor 250gb HD
HP 110 tower with an AMD E1 processor, model h5p35aa#aba
    Came with Windows 8 pre-installed

    Looking at your PC spec: Newegg.com - HP AMD Dual-Core Processor 4GB DDR3 500GB HDD Capacity Desktop PC Windows 8 110-014 (H5P35AA#ABA)
Unfortunately, your PC is not that powerful.
There are few reasons that cause lag/delay/skip:
    1. Your video is too big.
    2. While watching, You are running multiple tasks such as Anti Virus, Windows Updates running in the background, Disk defragmentation etc...
    3. Your HD is connected via USB port.
    4. Your integrated Video card cannot handle the streaming.

Or 5. hdd is slowly dying, has bad sectors and so on.
While cpu in this pc is very bad, gpu should help a litttle bit. external usb hdd is not the weakest point, it is enough even for full blue-ray movies.
So this is eightforums, so i think you are using windows 8, so open task manager and look at hdd, cpu usage in %, if it is very high, like 90% and over, then most likely your pc is too slow.

Are you trying to play 1080p content? an E1 Processor may not be good enough, I have an Athlon 4400+ and it is barely good enough to play 1080's.

Topgun has a point, you will have to upgrade the CPU or Ram or get s good Video Card, I use a Geforce 210, it's the cheapest one that can play 1080's. They are 35 bucks most places. A Better card will give you better output.
