This the error message I get

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To
fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and the click "next".
3.Click "repair your computer".
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File:
\Boot\BCD Status: 0xc0000001 Info: The best configuration beta for your PC is
missing or contains errors.
I have tried all the recovery options using windows 8 iso DVD - non worked

Also I did create "Windows 8 Repair Disc at the time When I upgraded from Windows 7. I tried it too - with no result.
Note: I upgraded using windows assistant.

Welcome to Windows EightForums, Waylomana.

Is this a new tower with Windows 8 preloaded? If not, how was 8 installed? Was it an ISO you burned or an OEM?

Was it an online upgrade, fresh install from ISO you burned, or bought the install disk?

Have you installed any software as of late? Change hardware? Plug hardware in such as thumb drives, etc?

When was your last antivirus scan? Does it say it found anything?

Can you boot to safe mode?

I did edit my post but here it is again.
It was an online upgrade. I have never installed any software unless the automated windows programs plus I was using Comcast "constant guard".

I am sorry for not answering all the questions.

Q. Have you installed any software as of late? Change hardware? Plug hardware in such as thumb drives, etc?
Answer: I did not install any software, not change hardware, but yes I did plug the thumb drive and I tried plugging it back while booting.

Q. When was your last antivirus scan? Does it say it found anything?
Answer. Usually it scans on the background but I didn't see any warning message.

Q. Can you boot to safe mode?
Answer. No

That's quite alright. No need to apologize. We all learn the ropes at new things.

I feel I made a mistake here. I should have asked you to start another thread with your problem so as not to insult the OP and confuse others.

I am going to request aministration to move your part of this thread to another. Please bear with me. I'll be back.

The admin I wrote is not online, so in the meantime....

I'm surprised your repair disk did nothing! UGH! Have you tried that more than once? If not, try a few more times. Perhaps that disk got scratched or corrupted some how? You either have to get that to work, get another 8 install disk to work with, or get the thing to boot some how to do repairs, preferably in safe mode.

If somehow you get it to boot, do these:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/3047-sfc-scannow-command-run-windows-8-a.html

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26512-dism-fixing-component-store-corruption-windows-8-a.html

Also run a full virus scan as well.

I've got to get to work. I'll be watching all day via phone, you may post, but won't have a lot of time or resources to help. Someone else may come along to help as well.

Good luck!

Ok so this thread got moved. You see that correct?

Making any strides? One thing I thought of is to clean the repair disk of grime. Did it get scratched perhaps? If it did its probably trashed. Someone else may, but Iknow don't know a way of fixing that.

Also, It may not boot but you can get into your BIOS. Are all settings okay there? Able to boot to the OS disk and partition?

The reason it gives this error is because the Windows Boot GUI cannot find the System Files. You can fix this with "Bootrec /Fixmbr and then /Scanos"

If that fails, then your Hard Drives has issues, download Hiren's Boot CD, burn it and boot to it, link below. Choose DOS PROGRAMS and then HARD DRIVE TOOLS.

Try Gwscan, if that fails, find the drive tool for your OEM drive. You will have to run a full disk scan to repair read element failure.

After you have finished that, Boot once again to Hiren's and go into Mini-XP. Open a command prompt and run CHKDSK on all of your drives. You can also do it from a Windows 8 Install disk from the command prompt, the trick is, do it from a boot disk, not from Windows 8 - That way it can scan all of the system drive and fix errors.

My system has done this about 25 times and either a GWscan or a regular CHKDSK fixed it.

Well, that's just the reason I've found for that particular error, I suppose I am an expert on it by now. Maybe there are other ways to fix it, but I know it happens cos the Boot Loader can't find the System files. But the system where that happens to me the most is whack, the boot loader or 7 and 8 is on a Windows 7 drive, not on the Windows 8 drive. But I've seen that error a lot, don't know if that makes me more knowledgeable, only for this issue.

A Windows 8 Install disk can do the CHKDSK, but CHKDSK don't scan the entire drive, so I use GWscan, WDdiag, Seagate Seatools, the Hitachi and Toshiba programs and if those fail, I use ViVard as a very last resort. I like Hiren's because it has all of these on one disk. The problem with that is I can;t write a tutorial that uses Hiren's, only the separate Drive Scanning Programs. I suppose I'll make a boot disk with only those programs and maybe they'll let me allow people to download it.

Does anyone else have experience making special Boot CD's - I need to make a Boot CD where i can have a Menu to choose from all of these disk scanning programs. That way we can point people to it, they can download it and get to the drive scanners. But I can't do SSD drives.

And we still need a way to run CHKDSK after that, the only other way is from a Windows 8 Install disk.

I sincerely am glad you stepped in. You're absolutely correct on the fault code. I think your solution is better than mine. I just don't want to misguide anyone.

Great idea on the repair cd at boot, BTW. :thumb:

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Same Issue - Windows 8 Pro won't boot, recovery disc fails

All of this info is Greek to me. Can someone please walk me through? I have a Dell XPS 15 521 with Windows 8 Pro. I purchased and installed Adobe CS6 and when I tried to reboot, got the Windows dreaded black screen. My Windows 8 Pro was an online upgrade and the system reboot disk failed! Unbeknownst to me, my backup software stopped writing to my external MyBook Live drive a couple of months ago and was backing up to my C drive (UGHHHHH!) so I stand to loose a significant amount of data.

I have been back and forth between my VERY EXPENSIVE Dell Pro Support warranty Techs and Microsoft Techs since last week. A Dell Tech had to come to my house to remove the battery or I would have voided the warranty - just to see if it would boot from the power cord and not the battery. Fail. All the Hard Drive diagnostics passed so Dell concluded that the Operating System is corrupt.

Microsoft is mailing me, at my expense, a Windows 8 disk that will not arrive for 2 weeks (and the disk is not for Windows 8 Pro--they can't seem to agree if there is such a thing as a Windows 8 Pro reboot disk!).

HELP!

If your backup was written to the C drive, it may still be there, you can use Hiren's Boot CD and Mini-XP to move it to another hard drive. Link is below, burn it and boot to it and get into Mini-XP, then you can browse your C drive and find the backup. Then you can re-create your restore disk with the right backup file.

If you have Windows 8 Pro, you NEED a Windows 8 Pro install disk. I don't care what they say, they are wrong, Call them back, cancel the transaction ASAP, because a non-pro disk will not help you unless all you use is the Command Prompt from it.

as far as those MS creeps are concerned, companies are not paying fair recently. In September I was given a 10 dollar discount on my Cable bill, it was there in black and white.

So this month they wanted to charge me for the "10 dollars I didn't pay" which was listed AS a discount in my September Online Bill, and this month, that bill has been edited leaving out the discount. So I called them and yelled at them for an hour and they finally agreed to pay half of it. SO whatever they tell you on the phone, they are LYING, if you upgraded to Pro, you upgraded to Pro, and you would have an email or something that states this, you need to find that and shove that in their faces.

I've bought from MS directly before, they always send an Email of the transaction, even if it was a free offer. I've saved all of these. Usually it's an email with the Product Key in it.

Waylomana is this an EFI installation? I ask because in my experience the Windows startup repair is useless in those circumstances. The BCD can need to be re-written (or copied back) and no, bootrec /rebuildBCD won't work either.
