Big Ugly File Browser when saving files

How do I get this nasty file browser to never show up? I'd really much rather a normal file explorer window pop up.
For example, using Paint Free, I made a nice little picture, then click "Save As". The screen I attached popped up. How do I get this bulky explorer to be replaced by a nice normal File Explorer? It happens in other programs sometimes as well, but I can't think of any other explicit examples.

I can't find an answer on the internet.. I don't know what to call this monstrosity.

Is that Windows 8.1? I've never seen anything like that in 8. Unless "Paint Free" is a Tile app, and you are trying to save something you made in that app, in which case, this is the App, not the OS.

I'll install it and see if I get the same thing, if I can change it I'll let you know

OK you are talking about the "Fresh Paint" application by Microsoft, I'm afraid that the big fugly browser is all you get.

I downloaded about 5 free painting apps, and Fresh Paint was the only one that allowed me to save. I Have the Sketchbook app by AutoCAD and that don't even let me save.

You can always make a screenshot of your work, and then paste it into regular Windows Paint and save it that way.

Thanks for looking into it for me. It also happens when saving files from emails through my Mail app. I'm thinking it's connected to the metro apps in general; I was just using Paint Free as an example. Have you really never seen this before? Am I using an old version of Win8 or something? I just bought this laptop off of Woot (refurbished)..

Here's images of how it pops up from mail.

Looking for a way to disable it Thanks for your help!

There is no way to disable it unfortunately. If you want a regular save dialogue window, you have to use a desktop app, rather than a Metro app.

I agree, all Tile Apps use that same "Big Ugly File Browser"

But thanx for turning me on to Fresh Paint, I dig it. I found a couple other cool Pain apps too.
