Hi there
Anybody got any idea of when the FULL language pack set for W8.1 RTM will be released -- you can't use the W8 versions - and even the WZOR leak only has the basic Ms 36 Languages in it.

Cheers

^^Those are the "36 languages" packs that the OP is talking about though, are they not? The official versions of them, obviously.

Yes. I misunderstood also (I think) I have only ever had a need for two, and sometimes three, language interfaces. Never realised there had ever been 106. Curiosity bites me though.I wonder which ones the op is looking for

Icelandic I would assume, given the flag under his name? There was an Icelandic language pack for Windows 8.

Will there be such language packs? Aren't there different kinds of language packs. "Full" language interface packs vs "language packs" which are used for input and for instance for spell checking?

I made the grievous mistake once of installing Hebrew into Windows 7. I could not find the Control Panel to set it back and had to wipe the whole thing!

I use, on previous OSs, a Danish LIP (Language interface pack). They are OK to get you around, and suit my purpose in teaching and demo, but, in the case of Danish, and, as I understand, many others, they do not give 100% coverage.
If the budget allows, and you feel it is really necessary, it is better to install the particular language edition of the OS.

Hi there
Windows 7 and Windows 8 had loads of extra language packs that you could set the display language to -- it was a good alternative to having the "Native" version of windows which isn't available - but all the menus' etc are in the installed display language on top of your installed version - often English.

There were about 106 extra languages (including Icelandic). You installed these as MUI files from the Ms site -- control panel - add language.

I'm surprised as I would have thought the base GUI would be the same as W8 but obviously not. - For some of my users this is going to be a showstopper unfortunately so they will stay on W7 or W8 until this is fixed. Pity as IMO W8.1 is far superior almost in every way to Windows 8 -- still not totally "Desktop Friendly" but Ms is "getting there" and has finally realized that while the market might not be growing very fast (if at all) desktop users STILL make up a significant part of Ms's revenue and will continue to do so for many years yet.

Control panel lists these but when you try and install them you get the message Language pack isn't available.

Cheers
jimbo

Not to worry. They have said that there are things still being added, before the public release. I doubt that they will take the chance of alienating, and losing customers, on such a premise.

Jimbo, Windows 7 from the start has a multiplex array of downloadable language packs ready to be downloaded from Windows Downdate. I have not seen this in Windows 8, and I wold LIKE to see it, because I live in an area with many spanish and farsi speaking people.
