    "Missing Operating System"

I'm selling my PC and long story short I went through thorough steps to ensure that I didn't leave any traces, I didn't do a clean OS install or format because I had a digital copy of windows 8 via upgrade and after using CCleaner to free space, uninstalling unneeded software, and manually removing remaining junk folders that weren't essential to windows, and with a reboot I got a black screen with a the message "Missing operating system".

I've done several reboots during this and the last thing I was doing was trying to remove a user folder, I deleted my original user account and was instead using a secondary local admin account I made. Despite removing the account and all my "files" a single folder with hidden files existed, I couldn't view them for whatever reason it was 2 folders "Sam" my name and inside "Desktop" however there were no contents in either folder but windows said they were 3GB in size. So was trying to delete it , getting an error saying need permission to delete <a long string of letters> , and it wouldn't remove. So I thought rebooting would do the trick, but when I did reboot I got the message. I can't figure out how to get it to work.

I do have my windows 8 product key, luckily. Any help would be awesome.

Sounds like vbr damage. Boot the windows 8 installer and let it try to fix automatically from the startup repair tools.

I had a digital copy of windows 8 via upgrade
Or you could run the win 7 startup repair , might take 2 or 3 runs.

I'm going to see if re-installing Windows 7 and and using the upgrade assistant will work -- since I have the CD Key for Win 8, but I still can't find my windows 7 key...

Is it possible to use an unactivated version of Win7 and still upgrade to Win8?

Alright, so I found out that because I already had a CD Key I can just skip to the verification and install directly from a inactive win7 , which is good!
