    problem burning mp3 cd

First off, my apologies if this topic has already been covered. Did a quick search and didn't find anything

I recently purchased a laptop with Windows 8 after the sudden death of my desktop. I have been having problems burning an mp3 cd. It won't play in the cd player in my truck. I get "bad cd/disc error" messages. At first, I thought it may have been a bad cd-r. Five cd-rs later, I am having the same problem. Not the cd player in my truck, either. Plays an mp3 cd I burned in XP just fine

I used WMP and EZ CD Audio Converter to burn the cds both with the same result. I'm stumped. The only difference I can see between the mp3s burned in XP and W8 is the bitrate. Would that be the problem? And how do I change it if it is?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I miss my tunes when I am driving

    thanks

I am wondering if the problem is due to formatting the disk differently, ie Live File System instead of Mastered see here: HTG Explains: Live File System vs. Mastered Disc Formats in Windows

Will the CD Player in your truck play MP3 CD's? Make sure, it will say on the face of the player. Mine can, but some of them won't play the content.

You have to burn them as a DATA disk, so don't use any special apps to burn them. If you use Windows 8 to burn them, it may convert to an Audio CD.

Best app to use to make DATA MP3 disks is IMGBURN - Just drag and drop the files into the box and burn em.

Thanks Vincenzo. To be honest, I didn't even know there were different ways to format a cd. Where do you get the option? I\ve never seen it before

Thanks X. Yes, the cd player in my truck plays MP3s. Never had a problem playing them before. I'll check out ImgBurn ... I've been burning them as MP3 cds so I guess that is where I have been going wrong, although that is how I burned them in XP without a problem

Just insert the blank cd, on the pop up choose "With a Cd/DVD" as in the link I gave you, and drag the mp3 files into the dialog box. Then click the burn button that usually pops up in the lower right. Or else click Share on the ribbon at top, then click Burn.

I'm, assuming that's what he did, I've never used the USB setting but for USB devices.

In fact the Windows Disk Burning system works great especially for burning ISO files.

Pauly, when the MP3 disk burned, did it VERIFY the burn after it was done? I don't know if the system verifies the disk when you burn files. If there is a setting window with a box that says "verify disk" i highly suggest clicking that before burning, cos it may be that the drive merely burned a coaster.

You should also check for a firmware revision for the drive, from
The Firmware Page • Index page

Find out what kind of drive you have and check for revisions at that site.

I have been using Windows exclusively for mounting and burning ISO files, I used to use UltraISO for mounting and IMGburn for burning ISOs, but the Windows Burning System is MUCH better than it has ever been in Windows 7.
