Is there a way to turn off the monitor when my Windows 8 PC goes into sleep/standby mode? Right now the monitor stays on with a "HDMI input" message bouncing around the screen.

Actually, what that's telling you is that your monitor thinks the input has been shut off, which most monitors would accept as a signal to put the monitor in sleep mode.

This may be a configuration setting in your monitors on screen controls. Or, your monitor may not work correctly with sleep mode with HDMI.

It's a Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM. I don't see anything about sleep mode in the monitor's configuration menu, for HDMI or anything else.

Are you using any kind of converter? Like a DVI to HDMI converter, or a VGA to HDMI converter?
