If he does, I would use a point from well before this happened - I think he may have said he did a restore, if not, then a restore may be a good solution.

    99lool,

Do you have a restore point dated before all this happened available?
Unfortunately no, What I am wondering is if this is a glitch?

I have just completely deleted all my partitions and reinstalled Windows 8 and its still the same so for some reason this must be in Microsofts Cloud system... Is there a way to delete my settings in their cloud?

I don't see how in 57,000.47 blazes that those settings are stored in the cloud? I use the same MS account for 3 different Windows 8 machines, each one has different Prefs for opening certain files, and no conflicts between them all.

I just looked in PC Settings under "Sync your Settings" and I don't see File Associations as being one of the things that can be Synched, unless File Associations are covered in "App Settings" but I don't think they are.

I'm wondering now if this Batch file is properly formatted, can you post a sample of it? Also, was this a completely fresh install or were there any vestiges of the prior OS left over, even in a Windows.Old folder or maybe even in saved files that you copied back over after the install?

I dont understand what you asking? Like post an example of an batch file? Well even just creating a blank .bat will open with notepad.

Do the Batch files open in other machines? I was asking about the specific BAT file you want to use. I don't understand this at all, you should be able to right-click on it and choose "Open" - Do you see "Open With" when you right click, because I don't have "Open With" on mine, just "Open" and "Edit".

With a fresh install, the BAT file should execute immediately unless you choose "Edit"

How about if you used the RUN command to invoke one of them? Try that, choose a BAT file that you knew worked, open RUN and paste the location or browse to a BAT file, then hit "OK" and tell me what happens.

If it opens up the BAT file in Notepad from there, then something else is going on.

Yes, try opening the BAT file in RUN, take a video of what happens.

A new install should not be opening up in Notepad unless you specifically hit "Edit" - You are trying to open with a double-click? I always right-click then choose "Open"

Maybe it is an issue with a shortcut?

But you didn't try to run it through "Run", that's what I want to see.

Do it like this, browse to the file in the Run box, then hit OK:

It would probably work better if you had a real command in there too.
