How Much Junk Must I Uninstall from Fresh Install? Lenovo

After a fresh install of Windows 8 on a Lenovo Ideapad laptop computer, my tile screen or whatever this annoying screen that I have to go through to get to a desktop is called is littered with a couple of dozen spam tiles from Bing and IntelAppUp and Accuweather and a variety of other junk I don't want.

Does all this spam come standard with a regular copy of Windows 8; or is this just the fluff that Lenovo packages on the OEM version of Windows 8 they provide on their IdeaPad?

It is fluff from Lenovo on top of fluff from Microsoft, I am afraid.

It comes packaged with MS crapware. Some oems will include start menu replacements and similar to try and make 8 superficially less unpalatable.

I unpinned tiles and uninstalled most all bloatware on my new Acer that came with 8. Now all I have on the Metro page is the one tile taking me back to the desktop.

I use IObit Start Menu 8 and like it very much. Acts pretty much like 7 except not the rounded corner and transparency look of Aero. Love the fast boot and wake-up from hibernate with the UEFI. I really haven't had any problems yet other than getting rid of the tablet look.

right click on the metro start ,and click more apps and see the rest of what comes with the metro start .

personally i don't use the metro start ,except for the desktop icon on win8 .
but on win8.1 i have it set to boot to my desktop, and i have the metro start to show all apps ,

If I do that (right click Metro Start) all that comes up is the bottom bar with the All Apps button on lower right. If I click that then I see the apps I have installed through desktop and a couple I did not uninstall/unpin from Metro. None of the original bloatware tiles or apps that I got rid of.

Start Menu 8 lets me boot straight to desktop. I was just saying if I do go to Metro, nothing is there except a tile back to desktop. That's how I like it. No tiles, no real need for Metro interface. Just old school.

the way i see it ,for me at least ,is if i don't use it ,it matters not to me whats on it .thats just me.

most if not all windows versions have apps i never used like word pad, paint ,games ect ect ect but i never deleted there startup icons in Start/all programs /accessorizes ,i just left them alone ,so that what im still doing ,

I gotcha. Still have all the core Microsoft apps and Windows shortcuts there in Metro through the All Apps button. Main page is only the one tile. Guess you could call me a tile hater. Plus my Acer came with a bunch of bloatware and the added tiles.

All gets back to personal preference and what each person considers junk. At least I have found 8 can be customized enough to present 7 look and feel which personally makes me very happy. I didn't think I would keep on my new laptop and go back to 7 when I first got it but will stay with 8 now unless something drastic happens.

If I know I'll never use it, I uninstall it. Stuff like Travel, Bing, and News apps get uninstalled. I've ditched the factory install and do a clean install when needed. The only ASUS apps on my system are the ones I install.
