I build my own (desktops) so I haven't had to deal with it until just recently when I bought a new laptop my me and my wife. The trial ware is what pisses me off. Or to be more specific, the nag screens that come with it.

The worst OEMs are HPs and Compuke, The come with "WildTangent" Bloat - At least lately they have been including a total uninstaller, originally, you had to remove each game individually- And there are usually at l;east 40 such "games" - Not to mention, they are all TRIAL versions. I've seen a few people keep "Bejewelled". All of the games that are included can be bought full for a couple of bucks online from the people who made the game.

HP and Compuke all come with similar cack. They also will have some kind of Office Installer, but no key. They trick people into thinking that the system comes with some kind of version of Office, but they don't. as far as all of the tile cack, I delete all of those, the only ones I keep are ones that support any hardware on the system, like fingerprint reader, face reader, or other biometric device.

    I figured it was probably Lenovo's add-ons.

So this tile page is called a "Metro" page?

How can I set up the computer so it's bypassed completely?

Also, there is also another page I have to get though just to get to the tile page. It is a drawing of the Seattle Space Needle. Is there a way I can bypass that also?

Finally, I am being forced to enter a password every time I lift the lid on this notebook, and I can't find the place to disable or change it.

Tom, yes the default open page for 8 is called Metro. The tile crap.

Third party apps can bypass the Metro page on boot and go straight to the 7 looking desktop. Many here like Classic Shell, I like Start Menu 8 myself.

The needle and password is a preference thing. I will find the exact location.

Here is where you turn off the password thing. Advanced power settings.

Maybe wait for the 8.1 upgrade , for the bypass the start screen Microsoft has added some navigation setting to win8.1 do allow users to bypass the start .you will find it by right clicking on the taskbar and go properties ,I'am using win 8.1 preview now .
I have been using win8 since it came out and it never bothered me to have to click on the desktop icon,so i have never used any of the third party apps to do it for me ,mite as well stayed with win7 [i really liked it ],I have always enjoyed new windows version [I never used Win ME or Vista on my computer i liked XP to much to change ],since win 3.1 ,
