HI,

Many people that have installed Windows 8 have had troubles with random
freezing issues. Many users have not experienced any but there has been
acorrding to Microsoft a small amount of users that have experience
freezing problems, However this is a bigger problem and is a major
bug that is within the clock and causes peoples computer's to lock up/
Freeze at random times etc. To get around this you have to disable
Dynamic Tick. Although this has helped some, It is not a solution
to the hanging.

This major bug in Windows 8 needs to be addressed by Microsoft
and fixed for 8.1. I have tried the preview edition of 8.1 and was
very hard to use as it kept freezing a lot. Will Dynamic Tick be
disabled in the new 8.1 build?

I hope this major bug is fixed or will be a waist of them releasing
a new version of 8 here.

I like Windows 8 and 8.1 a lot but just cannot
abide the freezing!

Thank You
Andrew :)

One major factor is outdated drivers.
I got my Gateway computer from WalMart.
17 of the drivers were outdated right off the shelf & I had lots of blue & black screens until I updated all my drivers.

Hi David,

Yes you are right also outdated Drivers is an issue also but to be fair,
If these were working with Windows 7 there should not be a problem.
There is a more problem than Drivers.

Probably so.

Have you tried running sfc & dism in administrator command prompt ?

I like that, Black and Blue screens. Hahaha!

I installed 8.1 as a VM and it appears to have locked up or frozen several times - The only time I have had 8 freeze was when I had it on a HD that had bad sectors.

Windows 8 is very sensitive to hard drive errors, if there is the slightest read error, it causes all kinds of freezing and long aperture circle waits. as well as 100% CPU. Ram and HD usage.

David's DISM is good advice.

not all driver or devices that work in win7 will work in win8 ,so a update from the manufacturer might make a difference .

i have been using win8 since it came out [on a older Dell optlipex 745 sff],never froze up on me yet ,running win 8.1 since Sunday only glitch i had was with 8.1 not working with my usb wifi device that worked in win8 ,but it solved itself , just saying
