Windows 8 icons fuzzy with black edges

I'm using Windows 8.1 with the latest Nvidia beta driver r326.80 (not sure if that matters) but I'm seeing icons with black edges all over in sub-menu items (like in 'send to') and in most dialog boxes. See the images below:

It's not related to ClearType (fonts are ok) and my display is set to 100%. Is that a known bug or it's once again a problem on Nvidia's side?

    Hello Yowan,

Must be the NVIDIA drivers. I get the same with the 326.80 version.

I see. As if that wasn't enough to add to the poor graphics performance and massive frame drops.
Thanks, I'll take it to their forums now.

Hmm, I don't see it in a Windows 7 VM, but do see this is a Windows 8.1 VM like in 8.1 host.

Those beta Nvidia have really been spotty and problematic for me. I think I'll roll back to the last WHQL WDDM1.2 driver for Windows 8. Perhaps that this will work normally without compatibility mode.

DON'T use nVidia Beta drivers, ever. It has been proved they are a lot of issues. The regular ones, are just fine and there is no need to upgrade them.

Has anyone fixed this problem yet? It doesn't seem to be related to the Nvidia drivers, as I am getting it on both a desktop with an intel HD2500, and a laptop with a Nvidia 750m + Intel HD4600.

If it is just the Icons, you would have to rebuild your iCon cache. I don't know how to do this from within Windows, I use a 3rd party Program to do it.

Sometimes you have to set a larger Buffer Size for iCons, I don't know how to do that from within Windows either.

Does anyone have a Tutorial on how to do these things?

Actually, I just thought of something, there used to be a Program called D7, a suite of tools:

d7 Free - Computer Technician - PC Repair Software -Foolish IT LLC

I used to use it all the time, but then the dev started charging for updates, so I stopped. I don't know if it is still free or not. But it has all kinds of Windows XP through 8 tweeks in it.

Ok, there is a free version, I'm checking it to see if there are any icon tools - Yes, there is a "Rebuild Icon Cache" under "Windows Repair"

Ok, I';ll check the tutorials too. I get this same problem sometimes, but I usually run ClearType and it fixes it.
