My laptop freezes from time to time

I am using windows 8 and from time to time the whole laptop freezes with only short moments where you can move the mouse until it freezes again.

And today I was using word and the program wouldn't let me work in it, you could see the mouse movement at the bottom of the screen only. I had to shut it down using task manager for it to work again.

Can anyone help?

There are a number of reasons why this would happen, first, start by using cCleaner to clear out Temp files, you may have a lot of files just using up space:

Run the first 2 cleaners, the file cleaner and the registry cleaner, and you don't have to worry about the program deleting anything important, it's pretty smart.

after that, if it is still doing it, you ought to run a CHKDSK on your system drive. It's best to do it from a Windows 8 Install disk through the Command Prompt that way you can do a full scan. You could also do it by right-clicking on the hard drive in Explorer and through the "Tools" tab, scan your drive through that. Or hit Windows Key + X and pull up Admin Command Prompt, type

chkdsk c: /f

And then reboot - If there is anything wrong with the file system, it shoudl be fixed.



If you run the chkdsk and it is still doing this, there is one more disk scan you should perform, but you have to do it from outside of Windows 8 using Hiren's Boot CD. If you have to, I'll explain how to do that.
