Looks like it may have gotten corrupted.

You can try an SFC /scannow - Do it 3 times if need be. If that fails, then there are DISM commands, I'll try to find the tutorial and post a link.

If neither of those work, you could do an In-Place Install using an Install disk.

It looks like some of the images related to that interface are missing. Or maybe you are using a non standard Font - You can reset it to Default in "Personalize" under "Display" (Right Click on the desktop and choose Personalize).

It worked when I first got my laptop. Recently I had this happen to me before, along with a bunch of graphics drivers problems. I was forced to factory re format my laptop. I do s, and it was working all fine. Now only recently out of the blue this happened again. It's not only the start screen too, I was in the Microsoft Store App, and realized that the back arrow is also dissapeared, except theirs no []. Also I di the sfc /scannow and had it come out with no results before. Only did that once though, didn't think to do it 3 times. I am also having a sort of somewhat similar issue in Skype. Here's a link to a thread I posted in the Skype community, please take a look, it could help you. Skype icons are super pixelated! - Skype Community

*Edit* Disregard the Skype problem, as I found out that's a known bug in the new 6.7 version of Skype. I just uninstalled that version of Skype and went back a version.

You know, that is actually a good question, I have been tampering around with fonts and adding some for Photoshop. I did recently add a huge folder of 2,000+ fonts, and some were the same, and just said delete and replace the same fonts for all items. That could be, but I don't know how I would fix that.

Well, I'd do an In-Place Install, it will restore anything that was deleted accidentally.
