I have installed windows 8 64bit today and it has crashed twice already to the point I had to press the power button until it turned off.

the first time the screen just went blank (music was still playing) but I couldn't do anything.
about an hour after the above the screen went on again and came back on and got a message saying the GPU driver crashed and then recovered. so I upgraded the graphics driver to NVidia 326 driver.
the second time the music stopped and got a awful tone (continuously) and muse cursor wouldn't move.

it has been installed less than 6 hours.

I use NVidia GeForce gtx460 with NVidia 326 driver. connected to Samsung monitor via HDMI.

this has happened several times now and it is really annoying me now, it seems to happen when I'm browsing the internet

I would run a memory diagnostic. Also try some other video drivers if possible.

I would re-install Windows, and run it for a while without doing any updates or software installations at all to assess it. If there are problems, do just the video driver update. If there are no problems, skip the video update and do other updates, not too many at a time.

Might not be a bad idea when you re-install to do a full format (not a Quick Format) of the partition so it checks the surface for errors.

I have downgraded the NVidia driver to 314 (whql) to see if this stops the hanging, but since doing so the multimedia keys on keyboard has stopped working and also remote control has stopped working also. any ideas why.

***EDIT*** I have changed the service file HID Access from manual to automatic and started it and now multimedia keys and remote control is working.
