    Upgrading from 32-bit to 64-bit

    Hi guys
I want to know can I upgrade my notebook Aspire E1-421 to 64-bit? I have Windows 8 32-bit installed on my notebook and I just want to try the 64-bit of Windows 8. Is it possible to do?
    Thanks in advance

Did your notebook come with Windows 8 pre-installed? Or was it upgraded from an earlier version of Windows (XP/Vista/7)?

What makes you think its 32 bit and not 64 bit? You can't "upgrade" from 32 bit to 64 bit. You would have to reinstall Windows using 64 bit install media to switch from 32 bit to 64 bit.

Is it a 64bit CPU? How much RAM do you have in it?

With 2 GB RAM as shown in your profile a 64 bit OS would not be recommended. This meets the minimum requirements but you would need 4 GB for optimum performance.

How can I check if my CPU is 64-bit? And yeah I'm planning to add more RAM on my notebook, as I see on task manager, it say if slot 1 is empty.. Maybe I can fill it with 2GB again or more..

According to the Acer Aspire E1-421 spec sheet

You can install a 64-bit OS.
Maximum Memory 8 GB (Would only be 4 GB if OS is limited to 32-bit.
Since the Maximum is 8 GB, you can install Win 8 64-bit)

    8 Home OEM $99 /free shipping

    8 PRO OEM /free shipping $139

Did Windows 8 come preinstalled on your Acer, or did you install it? Are you sure the currently installed version is only 32 bit? Your Windows 8 product code is good for 32 bit or 64 bit. If you can get your hands on 64 bit install media you can reinstall without having to buy another copy of Windows 8. I would see if you can get it from Acer, they may charge a fee for recovery media or other media but it would still be cheaper than going out and buying another copy of Windows 8.
