    Lost my BIOS key

Have a Toshiba L550 Pro Satellite and all of a sudden have lost the ability to get into my BIOS settings have tried the F2 key Esc and DEL and I cannot even use F8 for safe mode.

Was working yesterday so am a bit perplexed by this.

    Any ideas please?

Try Advanced Startup in computer settings.
    Troubleshoot.
    UEFI Firmware settings.
Enable boot menu to activate F 12 key.

A lot of people have problems getting into their BIOS menu when Windows 8's fast startup option is enabled. Or so it seems as when they turn it off they can then get into the BIOS.

When I had the Asus laptop and fast boot was on, I could hit the escape key really quick and it would bring up boot options menu, I could get into BIOS from there. Then you can set the F2 showing to 2 seconds, you may have set it to Zero accidentally.

You should be able to use advanced start settings to get into the BIOS from within Windows 8 though.

Some people have no problems getting into the BIOS even with fast start enabled others don't. It might be somewhat hardware dependant, if your PC is rather speedy that might make it harder to get in. The pain in the but starts when you can't actually boot into Windows to access the advanced start settings. Then your in a pickle so to speak. One annoyance for me is that F8 on my ASUS desktop boards is the BIOS boot menu. I almost always seem to end up in the wrong menu especially when I'm trying to access the Windows F8 menu. I have hibernation disabled from the command line on all my PC's and this in effect also disables the Windows fast startup. I don't use sleep or hibernate so I turn them off and kill the hyberfil.sys file. it's just a personal preference of mine.

Thanks fort the replies I am going to work through them and see what happens. I don't remember setting the BIOS when I put 8 on this machine and I have high performance set up in the power settings.

Now one is for sure it has been a funny machine since I bought it as the screen brightness has always worked in reverse for some reason ie set it to dim and it goes bright as and vice versa so maybe it has something to do with the power settings??

I've seen quit a few complaints about not being able to access the Windows F8 menu during boot up. I can't say as I've seen a common theme as to a cause though. Having or not having a UEFI BIOS might be a determining factor?

Yes Alpha mine is the old variety BIOS and since then it works sometimes sometimes not. When I can get in I cannot find any ref other than quick boot.

If you are referring to the fast startup I mentioned earlier, its a Windows feature not a BIOS feature. Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 8
The BIOS quick boot option lets the BIOS skip some checks it would normally do and boot up faster. It may also skip showing you the press this key to enter the BIOS screen. Turning it off usually only adds a second or two to your POST time.
