just cannot figure out how to burn/copy Favorites onto CD

I have spent hours reading dozens of articles. Im just a real basic comp user, this is probably pretty easy thing to do. I always get stuck on a couple of steps...things on my screen are not the way it says, or I don't get what is meant, or it sounds like it is assuming the reader knows how to "then, just follow the steps"...but I don't get what is meant by some terminology.

Feel really dumb after having read so many articles and still can't do it. Lots of the articles say to do different things. Not even sure what type of cd to use, I have some on hand I think are okay. Guess I really need a step-by-step walk thru for EACH step.

Comp got really fouled up, and even the built-in refresh or reset made no difference, in fact, made things worse. I want to save the favorites because I'll be reinstalling everything to the way it was new via the recovery discs I had to buy from manufacturer, then I want to be able to put the favorites back on, and hope things are fixed.

When I ask for help, people say sure, here's a link to follow. But I get stuck. Or they will type out the process for doing it, but there's always a few spots where it assumes the reader knows certain stuff. I don't want to say how many hours I've spent trying to figure out how to do it, ya' probably would think Im really exaggerating. Anyone?

    Hi bill14
When you have the window open where you have dragged or copied your files to, it says files ready to be written to the disc
then go to the top of the window and select drive tools then select finish burning.
    Hope this helps.

Just stick a black disk into the drive, you will get a popup that asks what you want to do. You should be able to choose "Write Files to Disk" and then drag files into it. Make Blank Disks open with Explorer or it won't work

    Hi Bill14,

What do you mean by "Favourites"? Do you mean the "Favourites" list within the Internet Explorer web browser for example? If so then we can tell you how to extract them onto a file, ready to write to CD.

Do you have any files you want to back up as well - photos from emails for instance?

The Favourites from Internet Explorer are easy to back up, but won't take up very much space at all on a CD.

Im already confused by the limited (for me) info in the first 2 posts.

DavidY - yes, I mean the IE Favorites/Bookmarks, etc.
Thinking maybe I could also copy my email section because I have a bunch of different folders there. Can't think of much else, but probably will end up forgetting something. By the way, can favorites and email get burned onto the same cd?

Some CD-R's I have on hand don't say if they are "audio or data".
    They are TDK brand, and they say: CD-R Recordable/Inscriptable 52X 80MIN 700MB/Mo.

what email program do you use to view your email .if its windows live mail or microsoft office outlook ,you would export them from the mail program first to a folder of your choice and then burn them to disk and yes them and IE Favorites can be burnt to the same disk ,and your CR-r's will burn both data and audio.

to get the favorites you need to go to C:\Users\your user name \favorites , and just copy the favorites follder to the cd-r , and after you reinstall window ,you will just go to that same place ,with the cd in the drive and copy the old favorites folder over top of the new on created after the reinstall .
not sure if you computer is setup the same as mine but i just put the cd-r in the drive and go to the favorites folder and right click on the folder and choose send to dvd\cdrom and choose use a usb device ,and you can do the same with the email backups when you make them as shown in the attachment in this post ,this same cd can be used again and again until it full me thinks [i usually loose them long before there are full ,lol ]

we will supply more info about emails when you tell what program you use

For mail Im using @yahoo.com. And from some places I've read, it says I have to use Windows Media Player to copy/burn things onto cd, but Med Plyr is not mentioned in any of these posts.

Figured I'd mess around a bit, all I could do is wreck one or two cd's. So I put it in. Was able to figure out the c/users/bill/favorites. And right clk favorites, it said send to the d drive. And I barely had a chance to look up at the screen when I just saw a green progress bar zippin' from left to right, and I think it said 'copying to cd' and disappeared. But no 'Burn a Disc' window asking to choose Live File System or Mastered.

So does this mean the favorites got burned/copied onto the cd, without seeing a "Burn to Disc" window with the 2 options, and without going thru Media Player? And opening the favorites folder and highliting all of them is not necessary? I won't just end up with a picture of a folder called 'Favorites' but nothing inside it, will I?

as to the email ,yahoo is web base so no need to back that up as it all kept on there server .
if you go to file explore and click on the cdrom icon it should open and if it burnt the folder it will be there ,if it didn't there may be or should be a option along the top to copy files .
and not you do not need to go into the favorites folder and select all to burn the folder .
i would also suggest that a USB thumb drive would be a lot easier to use for copying such small files and folder , then burning file to cdrom's

I went to the windows start screen..."file explorer" in search box...brings up window "Libraries"...I see the d drive, I click on its cd icon, this is what I get:

Files Ready to Be Written to the Disc (1)
    Favorites

and in front of the 'Favorites' is a box with a tiny down arrow on top of a folder...dbl clk down arrow gets list of each separate favorite.

Is usb stick, usb flash drive, and usb thumbdrive all the same thing? And how are they easier to use, don't ya go thru the same steps except burning/copying to usb stick instead of cd?
