    Weird Windows 8 Boot Issues

    Hi!

I have some strange issues when booting Windows 8.

    1) Sometimes, the computer boots seemingly without remembering my personal settings, so it starts on the "Preparing Windows" screen. If I let it run, it continues to set up Windows giving me a 'fresh desktop' without my configurations on it. After a reboot, it's either back to normal, or 2) happens.

    2) Other times, it doesn't correctly execute my msconfig, only booting very few programs.

Restarting always solves the issue, but it's rather annoying having to restart about half the times I boot the computer. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. Thanks!

If it was me, I would run sfc /scannow in administrator command prompt.

Then run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in administrator command prompt & reboot & run sfc again.

syndereN, your system is probably loading up a "Temprary Profile" - Go into your USERS folder and see if there is a "User" folder called "Temp" - If there is, then you are not booted to your actual user profile.

Also, sometimes, while booting to a Temp Profile, it will show "Other Boot" rather than your Profile/User name.

Try running David's DISM, and then run SFC /scannow at least 3 times after that. THis problem is intermittent now, but eventually your system will boot to only the temp profile. There is a fix for that, but it is involved, and I'll post the links only if David's fix doesn't work. You see, it is not a System problem, is a user problem. And the only way to fix it is to make a new user and move all of the folders in your user folder into it, but you can't just do that, you have to move it a certain way.

Hi guys. Thanks for your help so far. I ran the sfc /scannow, but it got stuck at a 100% of verification. I read in the responses of David's DISM tutorial that it's a windows update causing it, but I haven't tried uninstalling that one and re-running it yet. The DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth said that the component store corruption was repaired.

I checked my Users folder, which contains:

    Public
    syndereN1
    TEMP
    TEMP.SYNDEREN-PC
    UpdatusUser

What is the next step for me now; uninstalling the Windows update and running SFC? What am I looking for with it?

    Thanks again.

Run this batch file as Administrator.
It cleans out your Windows Update cache.
    It might improve things:

    Post back with results.

Running the batch allowed SFC to finish. Ran it, ran DISM, rebooted. Ran SFC again, ran DISM again.
Same story both times: SFC finds no issues, and DISM reports as stated in my previous post.
Tried rebooting multiple times in a row. It seems it alternates between booting correctly and 2) (see OP).

Someone else may be able to help with that.

    I'm about out of ideas.

Try doing a System Restore from a date before the problem started.

That TEMP folder right there, is your TEMPORARY PROFILE.

I had this issue about a month ago, I'll pull up the thread, it has links to solutions. You MUST be able to boot to Safe Mode Admin.

    here it is:

    System loads "Temporary Profile"

He won't be able to do that, not while this is happening. It's not a system problem, it's his user account. It can only be fixed from within Safe Boot Admin, make a new account, and copy everything from your user account into it but don't move the Index.Dat or any other DAT files.

There Is also a registry key you have to delete. It's in the thread I posted.
