Grr - Maybe it's time to do a "SFC /scannow" - do it a couple of times, then try a "DISM" - Look in the Tutorials about how to run a DISM command line, not sure how to do it. Ask David Bailey he knows.

Ran scannow and it had some problems it could not fix, ran dism and it corrected some problems, ran scannow and it found no problems. Wmp continues to give the error. Ran regsvr32 jscript.dll and wmp worked.

You'll have to make a script that runs that command on bootup, you can probably make it in Powershell.

The only other option is to do an In-Place Install, and I don't encourage that if the rest of the system is working. Only if you want to, just stick the Windows 8 installer into the system while it is booted up, and run Setup, and choose "upgrade" when given the choice between that and new installation. It will put all of your system files back in the right way.
