Try the Windows 7 driver. Get the unzipped ones and install through the device manager.

Would be heavier for the system though: only 2GB RAM; divide it wisely.
The cpu can still do fine IMO.

In many cases, the hardware drivers are baked right into the operating system itself. When I install Windows 8 on many of our laptops, there are usually only a few devices in device manager which even require a driver). Chances are good that thinks like networking and audio are just going to work under Windows 8, or 8.1 for that matter.

Partition on a Virtual Disk will use real disk space: whole disk will be a file in this case. The virtual OS will use RAM as well. You will have to try between 512MB and 1GB for the Virtual machine (in VirtualBox) and the rest of the RAM, respectively 1.5GB - 1GB for the main (host) OS which is Win7 in your case.

If you install it as the main OS, partition will use disk space, RAM will be almost as much as in Win7 but you said there are problems with drivers so you decide what path you take. I wouldn't rush it until the 8.1 final release in October so try it in VirtualBox first.
