Evening all.

Ive done something really stupid. Bitlocker what a wonderful tool it is... Until it goes wrong :-S

right this is the shirt version of my story.

1. I've put bitlocker on my c: which is also password protected. No problems here as I know the password.
2. I have a D: in my computer that houses my user profiles.
3. I thought it would be a good idea to put bitlocker encryption on my D: to also make it secure.
4 I then reboot my machine and try to log back in. I now get the log on message "The user profile Service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded"

now I have some pretty intense stuff on that drive also including lots of work which I need.

I'm now feeling rather stupid because I put bitlocker on to make my pc secure.... I've now made it too secure that I can't get on to the machine.

what can I do people? I need to be able to get in without having to format and start again.

Neobahamut, if you have another computer you could try accessing your D: drive, and as you said you have the password, you should be able to access the data / remove bit locker encryption completely. Let me know if this helps.

You encrypted the users (D) driver without telling the operating system to unlock automatically the users drive when login. The easiest solution is to connect this drive to another computer and decrypt it, reconnect to the original computer and boot, you will be able to login again. If you want to encrypt it again don't forger to give access to the computer (OS) to it when using the encrypting wizard. there's is selection there, I don't remember exactly where in the wizard, but is done when you ask for encrypt the drive. mine is that way and is working great.

Hi guys thanks for your help. I managed to decrypt my drive but for some reason once I hooked it up still it wouldn't find my profiles.

I'm going to reinstall windows tonight and start again. At least I've not lost anything. I just need to install my applications and redirect my profiles again.

How can I exclude files from bitlockr? Im guessing that if I exclude my profiles folder it would work ok?

Glad it helped!

I think the best way would be to partition the hard drive. You could have BitLocker encrypt your data, and have another partition just for your users data.
