Solved Control Panel Won't Stay in Category View

Pretty much the title. I switch Control Panel to category view close out, re-open and its back in the other view. I try switching it to category view, restarting the computer and it back to the other view. How do I get it to stay in category?

If you like, you could use Option 2, 3, or 4 in the tutorial below to set your Control Panel to always open in category view. The tutorial works in Windows 8 as well.

So I know I marked this as solved (I jumped the gun and figured registry changes would solve it for sure), but they didn't? Any other ideas?

Hmm, ok. Give Option Two a try with Group Policy to see if that will force it to open to the view you wanted by default.

I'm having the same problem, new install of 8. Hey Shawn I realize now why my Windows 8 installer is different - It's a British version heh. Installed a UK keyboard.

I was thinking it's because my resolution is 768 by 1024 as to why it's always opening in category mode.

How are you opening Control Panel on your PC?

By chance, are you using a shortcut, or the default way from :winkey: + X menu?

Ahh, I figured out (because of what you said) that it was classic start opening it in large icons, I had to customize it to make it open in category view. Thank you for helping me find the right answer.
