    Drag And Dropping Files

I recently bough a ssd, and I'm having an annoying thing happen with my shortcut folders(to my other hard drive).

I've made a video below because it was easier to show than to explain.

    Windows 8 Shortcuts - YouTube

How do I make it MOVE files to shortcuts instead of COPY files to short cuts

The default drag and drop behaviour is to copy if it's a different drive letter and move if it's the same drive letter.

The easiest way to force it to Move is to hold down the Shift key while you're dragging and dropping.

(Equally if you want to Copy, but it's on the same drive letter and defaulting to Move, then holding down the Ctrl key will force a Copy.)

Oh. Is their any way to make it so I can move regularly without holding shift(I don't mind installing a third party software which could do this).

    Hello ExcessiveNerve,

I find it best to make it's moved by right clicking on file, click on Cut, then Paste it where you want to move it to.

If you like, you could also add "Copy to Folder" and "Move to Folder" to your context menu to copy or move an item.

    Hope this helps some,

I was looking for something which I could use the regular drag+drop, not a whole new context menu :S

In that case, about all you could do is to press and hold the Shift key while dragging and dropping as David posted above.

Use Teracopy, it will actually move the whole thing. Actually default behaviour for that is "Move" on folder to folder copies on the same drive, no way to get around having to right-click - I move Terabytes of stuff back and forth all day long, once you are used to right clicking on the file you never do it any other way :/
