I recently bough a ssd, and I'm having an annoying thing happen with my shortcut folders(to my other hard drive).

I've made a video below because it was easier to show than to explain.

Windows 8 Shortcuts - YouTube

How do I make it MOVE files to shortcuts instead of COPY files to short cuts

The default drag and drop behaviour is to copy if it's a different drive letter and move if it's the same drive letter.

The easiest way to force it to Move is to hold down the Shift key while you're dragging and dropping.

(Equally if you want to Copy, but it's on the same drive letter and defaulting to Move, then holding down the Ctrl key will force a Copy.)

Oh. Is their any way to make it so I can move regularly without holding shift(I don't mind installing a third party software which could do this).

In that case, about all you could do is to press and hold the Shift key while dragging and dropping as David posted above.

Alright, thanks anyways.

If anyone finds another way to do this, please post!

Thanks for all the help :)

Use Teracopy, it will actually move the whole thing. Actually default behaviour for that is "Move" on folder to folder copies on the same drive, no way to get around having to right-click - I move Terabytes of stuff back and forth all day long, once you are used to right clicking on the file you never do it any other way :/

Instead of dragging with the left mouse button, drag with the Right one. It will then let you choose:

- copy to here
- move to here, or,
- create a shortcut here
