Hello! I've got a question about windows 8.1, so I thought I would post it here. Yesterday I realized that my computer doesn't seem to know which edition of Windows its using. It's activated and seems to be working fine otherwise. Is this normal?

If you acquired trhe install disk or upgrade from some non-microsoft source, it may have been altered. You get it from the Store?

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Never seen this one so far but after upgrading I've seen some weird things as well.
I never trust upgrades completely.

Try some programs out, see how it goes.
If everything works normally then you have nothing to worry about.

    That's basically it.
If you upgrade from the store on a ACTIVATED Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, there is no Watermark.

Here's the link I used to the non ISO download. I should have just downloaded it and burned it onto a disk, but I was thinking the msu file would be quicker.

Download Windows 8.1 Preview - Microsoft Windows

And theog, you might be right, but mine was activated AND I got a watermark. I think I'm going to do a system restore to try and put it back to when this first happened. I'll see about getting a screen shot too of the activated watermark Windows 8.1.

Then you are running OEM version: key is also kept to 8.1 preview.

Without OEM version but you still have valid key provided, a watermark can appear even after activation.

Also using OEM version here but what I remember is that the first updates of 8.1 removed the watermark.
