When will we get Win7.2 and do away with this Win8 POS?

I've built PCs since the days of the XT, when a 20 Meg HD was huge, and I can NOT get Win8 to let me do much outside of go onto Facebook.

I cant find the DL folder to access files.
I cant find a SEARCH window, to try and find files.
I cant find the NETWORK interface, to configure my wireless router, so now the laptop is non-functional.
I cant find the DEV MGR to add a printer, so I cant produce output.

What I REALLY want to know now, is who do I have to kill to fix this?

    Hi there.

as a NEW member with 1 post I would suggest you try and ask for help in a better manner -- would you log on to a Harley Bikers Forum and in post nr 1 say "Why do you ride those shXt bikes". !!!!

    Try using the HELP files.

In any case if you can't see the SEARCH input area you probably need to wear a pair of glasses with lenses about as thick as Milk Bottles.

    Screenshot enc.

If you've got experience of W7 / Vista you also know where to save your downloads (SAVE AS in the prompt when you download stuff).

Networking - just use control panel Network and sharing panel -- same as W7 -- or for wireless / LAN click on Icon at bottom RIGHT of screen - it will either be a wireless icon or a little icon looking like a TV screen.

For Printers Control panel ==> device and printers ==> add a printer What can be easier than that.

That's all I'm doing for the moment -- and believe me it's only because I'm up early and it's a BEAUTIFUL sunny morning and feeling good having my breakfast looking out at wonderful scenery and listening to a brilliant station (Classical New England from Boston Mass. -- Loud and clear via Internet even here !! streamed from my laptop to a decent set of speakers) that I'm even bothering to reply.

    Cheers

It took them a few months to get round to it, but Microsoft did publish a useful "training brochure" which isn't a bad way to find your way around Windows 8.

Download Windows 8 End User Training Brochure from Official Microsoft Download Center

Top tip - if when you open it, you find yourself in the full-screen Reader app and want to escape in a hurry before finding out how in the document, the old-school keyboard shortcut <Alt>-F4 will close it, or any other "Metro" app.

One can also install a PDF reader that opens the file in the desktop, instead of the full screen reader.

Interestingly, the "<Alt>-F4" to close the apps, or the active application within the desktop. did not make it to the training brochure.

Well Jimbo..I don't get that screen. Never seen it, except in your screenshot.

As for downloading a guide, see my OP...I can not find the DOWNLOAD folder (or any other folder for that matter), to access a DL'd file.

I HAVE asked people why they buy those thoroughly shitty motorcycles known as Harleys, and they cant give me a good reason for it, though they will admit that the things vibrate sufficiently to ensure they will never suffer from kidney stones.

Lastly. I wasn't asking for help, so much as making a statement., This OS is an absolute POS. Had this been MS's initial OS offering to IBM when they first began the home pc revolution...there would BE no Microsoft. The company would have died on the vine, and Gates would have been an engineer for Jobs at Apple...maybe. Of course once Jobs saw this disaster and knew that Gates tried to foist it off as an OS...he may not have allowed Gates to enter an Apple building.

There is after all a reason, the lead designer of Win8, is no longer employed by MS.

Sarge, you may want to open File Explorer, that by default opens like this:

Note the folder named "Download" in three locations, two on the left and one on the right; you can open either one of them for the downloaded files. If you still cannot find the files, I'd suggest that you get rid of this "this OS that is absolute POS".

    I agree with Jimbo...

Must have been your first day ever seeing Win8...

Know that the Desktop doesn't show itself to you by default and you have to get around a Start Screen... just type (to search) File Explorer and get into Explorer to begin with. or click the Desktop-labeled item there.

    Welcome to the forums.

    When we'll we get Win7.2?
Usually some time after Win7.1 gets released of course.
    Not in this dimension.
    You mean SP2...

    Hi there

(Windows 8 here so I assume we are using the same OS).

    1) Control Panel -- (Get into control panel via charms ==> Settings .

    2) choose devices and printers .

    3) Now you should see the screenshot I showed in the previous post -- nothing strange - just perfectly standard Windows 8.

In IE10 (same as IE9) when downloading a file click the drop down and choose SAVE AS -- screen shot enc.

    Cheers

    Windows 8 Pro with Media Center/Windows 7

Croonzg, google a program called Windows Classic Shell, install it, and it will make your OS boot to the desktop and it will show you a Start Menu with Program Files in it. Then it will work almost exactly like Windows 7 save for the lack of transparency.
