I love it too. They are definitely evolving as a company.

Yes, well I do believe that price-point will have something to do with the reception of the community. It seems to be all about price these days. The actual Windows 8 operating system itself is incredible, but if they price it wrongly, it could spell disaster.

    Hi there
since the issue with VMWARE has been fixed for W8 x-64 I haven't been back to W7 AT ALL -- a couple of programs that don't run for me don't cause a problem since I've installed these on my existing W2K3 server Virtual Machine and just bring THAT up as a VM when I need those apps -- I'm sure the apps will work on W8 in due course.

For a PRE BETA or even DEVELOPMENT level system I can't believe how stable this actually is -- OK there are minor irritations in using IE10 from the Metro screen but I always switch to Desktop mode where I've had NO problems - enabling all menus and toolbars also is a good idea on a development system --enable that in folders in control panel --and set the STATUS BAR to be visible in the IE settings.

I don't actually see myself going back to W7 even though I really thought W7 was great--W8 is just fine for me.

Any W7 app that doesn't work as I've said I just install in a W2K3 or XP virtual machine where it will work without issue. Even small netbooks are capable of running a small XP virtual machine these days. !!

    Cheers

Yes the difference is only marginal in almost everything but still there is a difference :P
The boot and shutdown time has been definitely improved. The time to reach my Desktop on Win7 was much greater than this.

I actually agree. Windows 8 is incredibly stable for a pre-beta and although it's not recommended, I am also using Windows 8 primarily right now. I think I will just continue to use it until the Windows 8 beta comes out. Although I can't play Minecraft; the AMD ATI driver causes the computer to crash as soon as I login to a multiplayer server via Minecraft, but that is due to the driver AFAIK.

Any specific problems with win 8?

I mean with software\drivers and such.

Which is the most negative thing with the "beta"?

DMHolt57 #8 ""One of the first things I noticed is the number of processes running, about 30 fewer in Win8DevPrvw.""

This is very interesting and a little strange. Fewer processes running, maybe because is beta?Maybe they will add more "things" in the final version?

No specific problem that I have encountered yet.
Everything works fine though the explorer does crash for me at times and for the softwares please refer to the Working/Non-working softwares section in Forum which has a detailed list of what works and what doesn't.

I think that goes for most people. Only drivers being the other issues but this is a highly work in progress OS, it's a template as i said many times.

I am using it as my main and only OS. I can live with the quirks. I am also running 4 other "pre-beta" apps and WDP plays nice with all of them.

Only issue I have found is Acronis 2012 try & decide BSOD"S other than that after killing metro, I like it.

Hey ziggy, don't be too comfy with the WDP mate, it will expire and you will need to remove and get the RTM version.

I used free Macrium without any problems. Maybe that would be an alternative until you get Acronis to work.
