Hi Guys, Recently my pc has taken forever to boot up. A black screen hangs there for about 5-9 minutes before opening up in Windows 8.

I thought a virus was there so did a full scan using Kaspersky Internet Security 2013, nothing found.

I haven't d/l'd any new software recently.

I have tried to upload music to my micro SD card from my iphone, but the icon in My Computer is not showing, not in Device manager either.

Don't know if they are related but the problem started just after the above incident.

Hope I'm explaining this ok, I'm a silver surfer and not too 'with it' concerning technical data.

Look forward to any replies.

Welcome to the Gen help forum!

have you added any USB devices lately, any new printers, any USB drives?

If you have, try either powering them down before booting and trying it again.

If that is not the problem, we should scan your hard drive for errors, but not with SCANDISK. But before we get into that, just check for any USB devices. Sometimes a Printer will hang up a boot process, because it may have Card Readers in it.

Also, you may want to check out that SD card, pull it out and try to boot again. - If it's a bad card, it WILL hold up booting, and now you say you can't see it anymore, I think it may have gone bad. Actually you should check the SD card in a different reader, because sometimes the SD Card Readers will go bad.

Hi Guys, The SD card booted up then went blank, not showing again. It's a quality one 'Sandisk micro SSD card I use in my iphone for storing photos, music etc, with the adaptor for the SD card reader on the pc.. Put it back in my iphone and it works fine. Maybe the adaptor is faulty. How do I check?
Thanks to all who posted so quickly.

Yah, is it a card reader built in, or is it a USB card reader? These things go bad sometimes, you can try a different reader and it will solve this.

Try different SD cards in the reader, ones you know to be good. See if they cause the same problem. Also, if it is a USB reader, plug it into another computer and see if it is the same thing, Sometimes, it is not the reader at all, but the USB connection. Try a different USB slot as well.

All I can tell you is that I've gone through 5 USB CArd readers, the kind that you install into your Box, and all five have gone bad. And those plug right into the USB connection on the Motherboard. You can try jiggling the connector a bit while you have a card installed and the system is ON, but be careful when you do it.
