Solved Scheduled task didn't run

I should have had an automatic system restore backup today (It's been 7 days since the last system backup).
It didn't happen, so I checked the Task Scheduler, and I see that System Restore task last ran yesterday morning at 8:46.
Why didn't it run this morning?

Hi JeffL,

I'm a bit confused about the your issue. From what I can gather, it looks like your system restore was run on 7/23 (per second view), you then confirm it was last run on 7/30 (per your use of the word yesterday). That would be the 7th day; yes? If correct, I'm not sure how today (7/31) enters into the big picture?

You have the dates correct. Yesterday was the 7th day, so after 9:07 AM today is the eight day. The SR task runs everyday, and if finds that a Restore Point has not been created in the last 7 days, it creates a new Restore point, but the task did not run today, it last ran yesterday morning. If it had run today, it would have created a RP.

Your image shows that a restore point was created on the 30th so I'm still not getting it, Anyway, no need to respond so just hang in there and maybe someone else will clearly understand your issue and respond accordingly. Good luck.

Sorry for the confusion.

The restore point was not created on the 30th, the last restore point was created on the 23rd (the 2nd screen shot shows my two current restore points).

The first screen is showing that the Scheduled task that runs a program to check to see if an automatic restore point should be created was last run on the 30th (yesterday), at which time it determined that it was not time to create a restore point. If that task had run this morning, it would have seen that it was now time to create a restore point (7 day rule), but the task did not run. It is suppose to run every day.

Hi Jeff,

System Restore points are created under the automatic maintenance umbrella (note the absence of the task trigger). The point will be created during the next maintenance period, so there's nothing to worry about.

I did notice that there wasn't a trigger, but I thought the scheduled task that determines if a restore point should be created, was run every day.

It was run this morning, and having run, since the previous restore point was at least 7 days old, a new one was created:

Jeff,

Everything is correct. First, automatic maintenance should kick in, which triggers the system restore task. Then the system restore mechanism determines whether a point has been created within 7 days, as you had already made sure in a different thread of yours.

If your problem is solved, please mark the thread as such.

Vadikan,

I'll mark this as solved, my only question is, why didn't the SR scheduled task run yesterday? Isn't it suppose to run every day? That was my primary question. I learned about the 7 day rule a couple of months ago. If the task had run yesterday, I think the restore point would have been created yesterday.

Before this, has the task run every time it was supposed to?

I can't say for sure. I haven't been monitoring it everyday. In this case, I was expecting the Auto RP, so I just looked to see if it happened. I don't know for sure when it is "supposed" to run, I was assuming that it was everyday. There is a History field on the sched. task screen, but it is disabled, and I don't know how or if I can turn it on. That would be handy to have turned on, but this is all just kind of academic anyway. I don't have a real problem.

Well, there is that field where it says when it ran last and what the result was.

Vadikan,

I'll mark this as solved, my only question is, why didn't the SR scheduled task run yesterday? Isn't it suppose to run every day? That was my primary question. I learned about the 7 day rule a couple of months ago. If the task had run yesterday, I think the restore point would have been created yesterday.
Mmmm... I thought I've explained this already in the posts above. Let me try to put it differently, but refer to the links in post 6 for details.

1. Automatic Maintenance (AM) task is scheduled to run every day. It doesn't mean it runs every day, because your PC may be turned off or it may not be idle at the scheduled time. In these cases AM runs during the next idle period.

2. SR task is not scheduled to run every day, and it's obvious from your screenshots. It is scheduled to run when AM runs, and it must be triggered by AM.

The algorithm is: AM task runs > triggers SR task > the 7-day rule kicks in.

If it's still not clear, I'll rest my case and you'll just have to accept that this is how Windows works or wait for somebody to explain this better :))

I appreciate your explainations, and I'm sorry if I tried you patience :( I've been aware of and understand all the points you made. It's just hard to imagine, that sometime during the day (between 8AM and 10PM), there was not an idle period for the AM task to run. I'm away from the keyboard most of the day.

Jeff, no need to apologize. As long as we've established that everything works as expected AND there's an explanation for why it works that way :)

I have a similar problem, except that Wamp64 is in the STARTUP. It will not fire when then computer is rebooted. Clicking on the icon works fine though.. Anyone with a similar problem?
