Ah yes, fair enough then. I am really quite impressed with this Hybrid boot to be honest. I feel like my PC has now become a phone, so to speak.
I wonder if they will try to improve the cold boot more... I mean, if they're trying to shift focus towards UEFI, it'll be interesting to see how they deal with that (especially for dual boot users).
I have a dual boot setup and hybrid boot still works great. The GRUB bootloader can either transfer control to the Windows bootloader, or boot into Ubuntu with the way I have it right now.

That's because the 'shut down' function is a hybrid hibernate function. If you look, it still keeps a hibernation file store. Basically, the difference in Win8 is that it closes all the user processes but keeps some system processes and services still running so that it doesn't have to re-open them. Also, I'm led to believe this because my Lenovo Thinkpad makes an annoying beeping noise when either sleeping or hibernating (and waking up) that you can't avoid, and it makes this same noise when 'shutting down' in Windows 8.

That leads me to the question whether it will always require the hiberfile. That could be a pain with a large RAM and small SSD for the OS.

Well... surely the hiberfile isn't that big, right? SSD's are usually a standard 80GB these days (some are still 30 though).

    I don't even have a hiberfile.

    It's not required with Win8 8102.

I didn't realise... But it's not like I'm out of space or anything, so it doesn't concern me...
