Fill out your system specs.

What version of XP did you install, and how? What edition of 8 is it?

Do you have any kind of recovery/repair discs for win 7 or 8?

i think you need to start all over again ,this time with a plan , how many differen versions you are going to install ,and if only plan on install on like XP ,i would suggest just running it in a VM on win8 .
https://www.virtualbox.org/

like already mentioned win8 needs to /should be install last when installing multiple operating systems .
Install more than one operating system (multiboot)

Windows 8 is more sophisticated in multi-boot systems, it has the ability to control all of the OSes installed from it's graphical GUI. So in the order of installing Multi OS, you should do the oldest OS first, the newest OS last.

But using a VM would be a good workaround for this, you would not have to install XP onto a drive and have it in the boot sequence.
