Hi,

You should describe your problem clearly, since the file type association model has changed in Windows 8, and references to Windows 7 may be very well irrelevant.

The first thing you need to do is to open Control Panel, find "Associate a file type or protocol with a program" and choose a program for the file type you're having problems with.

the pictures i used are the exact same on windows 8, by right clicking-open as
the error you see is the exact error im getting!

Hello Romeo, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you like, download and merge the .reg file attached below, approve (yes/ok) all prompts to approve, then restart your PC to apply to see if this may help. It will restore the default "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown" registry entries for Windows 8.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

i will give this a try and i will say you if it worked!
EDIT: IT WORKS thanks so much!

thanks all for trying to help me
