    Scrambled Screen After Hibernation

I have been having a frustrating problem every time I awaken my computer from sleep mode. When the screen powers on, it is scrambled. One thing I have figured out, is if I fold the screen back down and then reawaken my computer, the screen appears fine. However this is not normal, nor should it consistently occur. I do not want to do any type of reset or partial reset as I have done that already which only temporarily solves the problem (and I lost all my desktop personalization).

Is anybody else having this issue? How do I fix this?

I am running Windows 8 on a Toshiba Satellite L875. My computer is four months old. I have never dropped/banged/etc the computer. There has been no water, temperature, or any other type of external damage. My anti-virus software (Kaspersky) tells me my computer is clean. I have downloaded all of the updates for my computer.

Welcome to Windows 8 Forums! Can you take a pic of this happening with a hand held device or something? Let me see exactly what it looks like.

    Food for thought:

How much RAM do you have installed?
    How big is your hiberfil.sys?
Does your computer return to the lock screen after hibernation?
Do you have a custom image set that may be extremely large?

Note: My first two questions have some technical merit. The last two are just stabs in the dark. Good luck.

I will try to get a pic uploaded as soon as possible.

My computer has an i7 processor and 8G of RAM.
Not sure, and not sure what that means.
My computer is password protected so it does return to the lock screen after hibernation.
I do have a custom image, not sure of the size. I copied the current lock screen pic from the Bing search app one day.

I also did not mention that I have logged on without unscrambling the screen, and it took me to my desktop which remained scrambled so it is not just the lock screen. It appears to me, to be some type of loading error after hibernating.

Maybe something is fouling up your Hiberfile.sys file. You say you've been keeping the newest drivers loaded? How if you rolled back your Video Driver to the earlier one, I know that Nvidia Beta drivers don't work so well with Windows 8. and they just released a new Beta Driver.

I have no idea what a hiberfile.sys file is? I also do not know how to roll back my drivers? Sorry for sounding like a pain!

Hiberfile is a file in your root folder, you will have to change your Folder View settings to see it, by "show hidden windows and system files" Then just delete it, and reboot, try Hibernation again.

As far as the Drivers, you right click on "My/This Computer" and choose "Manager" and scroll down to Device Manager, locate your Display device and check the make and version, if it is an Nvidia Beta driver, it may be causing you problems, You can always roll it back to the previous driver, and see if that clears up your problem.

Thanks, I will give it a shot, this weekend. Ever since I posted this inquiry, the problem hasn't presented itself, which is just as frustrating as when it does present itself. What is the likelihood that I may erroneously further screw up my computer in the process?

Well, deleting Hiberfile should not hurt your system. Actually, if you downloaded Hiren's Boot CD, and booted to it to "Mini-XP" you could browse to your System Drive using the Explorer in that system, and you can safely delete both your "Hiberfil" and "Pagefile" .sys files. There is a swapfile.sys as well, but I've been leaving that one alone. While you are in there, you can safely run a quick CHKDSK, there is a link in the Program Menu that pulls up CHKDSK and it's already set to do a quick check, juts type your system drive letter and hit enter, it will scan your drive and tell you if there are any errors. I'd do that if the problem presents itself again, but if it is not doing it now, then just leave it alone until it does it again.

Okay so my problem is back now and I can't figure out why it's still happening. Is this perhaps a manufacturer's defect?
