    Classic Start Menu Option

For my desktop and notebook computers, I want a classic start menu. I hope this option is included in the final Windows 8 release as I do not use touchscreen monitors.

Hello 888, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If not, you could use the free program Classic Shell to have it. In addition, you could use the tutorial below to make it easy to enable and disable the Metro UI.

    Hope this helps,

Considering the fact that businesses will be slow to adopt the OS without the classic interface I am sure there will be provisions for the classic interface.

Shawn's Metro UI - Add "Disable/Enable Metro" to Context Menu in Windows 8 tutorial instructions also work for the Start Menu, Start Screen, Windows Explorer and many other locations in Windows 8, but apparently not the Task Manager.

    Hello Sue,

I didn't include the Task Manager since it appeared that everyone was wanting to keep the new look for it, but only wanted to get rid of the Metro style in the other locations.

Does anyone want a second option added to the tutorial that includes the Task Manager as well?? If so, just post here, and I'll be happy to add one if it's wanted.

Thanks so much for asking Shawn! Yes, I would very much like the option to be able to use the classic Task Manager style if I could not get comfortable with the new version. I'll bet some other users would too.

Ok Sue. Steps 4 and 5 added to have those include to also enable/disable the Task Manager.

Hello everyone, I just found this super small program that puts the Start Orb on the task bar. All my testing it seems very well programmed. It is free too! I really miss the Start Orb in Windows 8 and this gives me the best of both worlds. Enjoy -WS
Hi everyone I posted this sometime before but there are always a load of new people wanting to try W8. This post is addressed to those "Metro Haters" (which includes me BTW) who use a computer as a COMPUTER rather than a large and heavy smart phone. You CAN have the old start menu back too....
