I moved the Desktop Tile to the top left of the screen and once Windows logs you in, slap the space bar and bam! You're in.Click image for larger version

Nice. With multiple monitors, I haven't had to even think about that but, it appears to work just as nicely even there.

With multiple monitors, at this time in the development process, if I click on a different monitor and I don't have a Metro App running and focused, it has always brought the desktop back on the primary monitor (or the one to which I've switched Metro to via the built-in multi-monitor taskbar).

WIN+D will get you to the desktop too - and from anywhere.

I use this a lot more. I don't see the need to press spacebar once when I can use win+D all the time.
Also what's handy is that if you run a metro app from boot, the desktop process isn't actually started until you run a desktop application. :-)

Why couldn't they have used Win+S for that?

Yeah, that would have made more sense. I first thought thy reserved that for "Search", but that is WIN+F -- go figure

Hi Everybody, If anybody could give me some pointers on my problem I would really appreciate it :) I have Windows 8.1 on my HP Pavilion Laptop. I have this problem where after starting my PC, logging in and being dropped into the Panel view, I wait for about 10 seconds... and then the PC...
OK, so I'm using a hp 2000, with windows 8 obviously. I don't know what the new 'view' is called on IE 10, but after getting into ONE page, there is no way of choosing another tab or page or settings or anything. What precisely is one expected to do with it? No amount of running the cursor off-page helps one iota. Is this my browser, my computer or...

I just thought of this, the desktop form factor WON'T be gone. In fact, it's being reinvented into the All In One PC. These systems are literally plopped onto a desktop of your desk, much like what the first desktops were like. And some PC manufacturers are releasing some details about their AIOs...
I don't know quite honestly. One on hand, there is a new interface, the Start Screen; on the other, Windows 7 minus the Start button. There have been a few screenshot leaks of a post-Consumer Preview build, and from what I gather, nothing is being improved to the Desktop to make it STAND OUT as...
