Win 8/ Win Vista Dual Boot

I have a HP desktop that came with Vista installed on a SATA HD. I added an IDE and installed Win 8. The install went well. I expected to have an option to boot into either system (Vista or 8) after the reboot. That didn't happen. It boots right into Win 8.

In My Computer it shows the Win 8 drive as "C" and changed my Vista drive to "D". Is it possible for me to be able to choose which one I want to boot when I start up? Thanks in advance!

1) Welcome to Win 8 Forums!

2) You can add it in to the boot menu using MSconfig:

msconfig.png

If you can't actually add it in there, you will have to use a 3rd party program, this si Windows 8 Manager from Yamicsoft, 15 day free trial, you can set it there:

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Installed Win8 mngr. Added my Vista drive. Now I get the choice to boot into either system. If I choose Vista, it shows the loading bar then restarts the PC. Any ideas?

Finally got it to work. I had to disconnect the Win 8 HD so it would try to boot Vista. I did a quick repair and it booted into Visa fine. Shut down and reconnected the Win 8 HD. Rebooted the PC to the OS selection screen and tried Vista. It loaded fine.

Thank you all very much for the fast replies and helpful suggestions. The Win 8 Manager did the trick, :).

Great, it is a good program, I guess your Vista drive got corrupted somehow, because it should have showed up from the start in the 8 loader, like my 7's did.

SIW2, I like the program cos it puts those easy to forget settings all in one place. But mostly I use the Optimizer, it detects your Ram size and L2 cache and sets the system up optimised for those sizes.
