Hi, I've got Windows 8 64 bit and I'm running it on a Gigabyte U2242 ultrabook on the max resolution 1
Yesterday, after booting up, I saw that the desktop is black, the icons are black/ invisible too, I can, however, see the taskbar.
On the other hand, the tile menu works just as intended.
The laptop has two video cards: Intel HD 4000 and a Geforce 650M, I've uninstalled the drivers for both under safe mode and reinstalled the latest ones.
I've read somewhere on the nvidia forums that the geforce driver can't be removed because v.304 comes with Windows 8. Is this true?
Any ideas?

Did it ever work? I see no reason why you can't uninstall a driver in device manager (even though it may be available in the Windows driver catalog). It should then revert to a default VGA driver untill you update it accordingly. You could also try changing an option in your BIOS to disable the shared graphics arrangement but I don't know what it would be called on your rig. Good luck.

Hi, no, it doesn't, it goes back to full resolution after restarting (and the black desktop). The drivers does get uninstalled but Windows goes back to it after rebooting (I tried it in safe mode while disconnected from the internet).
The weird thing is that if I lower my resolution (instead of using 1600x 900 use, for example 1366 x 768), then the desktop IS VISIBLE again, with the icons and everything.

What is the native resolution of your monitor? If 1366x768 then I can see where there might be complications if the resolution you are seeking is beyond the capabilities of the monitor. Check to make sure your are not (somehow) forcing an unsupported resolution. You could also give us the name of your monitor so we could investigate that further.

It may be an activation thing, open admin command prompt and run SLMGR.VBS /dlv and see if you are activated right.
