Hippsie, MY COMPUTER SLEEPS FINE after the Dec MS update (you must have missed than in my comment) even with all of my programs loaded and drivers installed. I don't need any troubleshooting, thanks anyways.
My apology. I did miss that in your last paragraph.

On the other hand in your first paragraph last sentence you wrote:

I did not even load in the Intel drivers from ASUS for my mobo yet (later I did but did not help).
Help what? Rather confusing like this whole thread has turned out to be.

    I appologize for the mistake!
This is a laptop. It only has "Balanced" and "Power saver" for power plans.

If I had hair I'd be pulling it out over this. My laptop will sleep on its own just fine. For several days typically. Until it doesn't. And then a restart is the only thing that will get it working again. Something runs that prevents sleep and I haven't figured it out. Manually putting it to sleep is my fall back.

What's doing it is W8 nightly automatic scheduled maintenance! It's scheduled for 2am but it runs at random times.

Once the maintenance is complete wouldn't the computer go to sleep after X minutes?

Seems to me that at some point something continues to run that prevents sleep.

Something that runs in maintenance that keeps the device from sleeping after it runs until you reboot. Then it sleeps ok until maintenance runs again.

Updated to Windows 8.1 three days ago . . . She slept in Windows 8 and after the update, she sleeps. I had updated to Windows 8.1 back when it was released the first time, and she became an insomniac.

After she crashed and burned and I had to send her back to HP for repairs, I didn't update a second time until now.

I guess I have a few more days to say for sure the sleep problem is fixed, since so many have thought they had a fix and it only lasted a few hours or days.

If I had to guess I think I'd have to say the December update fixed the sleep problem on this HP 500-056.

    Good one, Wynona.

Out of curiosity, will it sleep while playing a YT video in a browser? My main desktop (win 8.1 update) does but my netbook (win 8.1) will stay awake till the vid is finished.
