Sorry I missed you last unwarranted dig that was directed at me. I don't have to open a thread because I don't have a sleep issue; period! However, if you or anyone else does, I would recommend they do just that!
Thanks for looking out for me. Now I know that a new thread is an option. That's great info.

That appears to be your best option or just live with YOUR issue because if it hasn't been fixed with 91 pages of responses, you chances are slim to none in finding someone who is even willing to respond again based on your posting style.

If you did happen to read the 91 pages you might have learned that there is no "fix", or at least not one that works for more than a few unique cases and is likely only temporary. So most of us are biding time and waiting (not very optimistically) for a fix from Microsoft. I haven't totally given up so I monitor the thread. But it's not surprising that given the frustration level that the discussion at this point is wandering.

Your criticism of the content in my opinion is not helpful. Frankly this kind of criticism is normally reserved for the Op, which is not you.

What do you mean by Power Management? I don't think you mean Power Plan. Or do you?

And to answer the other poster this is a brand new laptop. All I did was update it to 8.1 and do all the other updates that MS told me to. It seems to sleep ok when on battery but not when it is plugged in. Seems beyond strange to me.

Maybe this sleep problem occurs because people screw up their computers some way.
    Or not.

    Most likely though.

When a computer ships from the factory, it works good.

Once a person gets hold of it the problems crop up.

If one computer sleeps ok & another does not sleep ok, it indicates to me it is the users fault.
Not the OS or the computer's fault.

    I'm ready to get bashed.
    Be gentle.
David and Gypsy, I wish... I disproved that theory a couple of months ago. I cloned my boot SSD, removed all other drives from the system, and did a bare metal install of Win8.1 Pro with a wipe of the partitions, format, the works. I barely got through loading the updates from MS when sleep stopped working. NO OTHER PROGRAMS WERE INSTALLED. None, only MS stuff. Mind you, there were other computers on the network and I had stuff like an HP printer that automatically had its drivers loaded when I installed windows, and my ASUS UEFI BIOS was up to date, but otherwise a clean machine. I did not even load in the Intel drivers from ASUS for my mobo yet (later I did but did not help).

AHA, I said and went to pin it down to a specific step in the install when I accidentally wiped out my other drive partitions when I forgot that I had plugged them in later. CHAOS ensued and I never pinned it down.

I also have 4 computers in the house with Win8.1 and only one has had any sort of sleep problem. Exact same programs are installed on all of them.

My sleep problem started exactly when Win8.1 update was installed. It stopped exactly when I did a Win8 update in Dec sometime. Besides all that, we have had smart people digging on this for months now. A particular program or a Windows setting would have been snagged long ago. No, MS did something to the network and power settings that only affected a small number of users. I donno what or where but I am totally convinced of this.

Here is a question. Does anyone who have a sleep issue have computers on their network that are NOT running Win8.1? Perhaps Win8.1 does not play nice with other computers running Win7, XP, or plain Win8 on the network and keeps polling them, keeping the network alive.

    Microsoft works in mysterious ways.
They are very hush mouthed about what they do.
That leaves users much on their own to try to get bugs fixed...

I wasn't knocking people about messing up their computers{although they do}with this sleep problem.
Like I said, mine sleeps just fine & I am using the same OS others are using.
It just perplexes me why mine works & their's don't.
I apologize to any I may have offended.

In the interest of complete disclosure (you have to forgive me since my memory isn't so good) I wanted to say to David Bailey that I did do a few things to my new computer other than just updates. I installed one program and created two tasks in Task Scheduler and a few other things I can't quite recall.

I thought about doing a complete reset to test the theory related to sleep but then I thought who doesn't do some things to their computer. I wouldn't keep it untouched forever.

Now I hope I'm not jinxing myself but I just got it to go to sleep both on battery and plugged in. Also got it to go to sleep when my Win 7 computer on the same network is on. I did do a restart so perhaps that killed whatever process was preventing sleep. If that is true it probably won't sleep again at some point. We shall see.
