Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

  1. #901

The variable I see here is different OEMs or self-built PCs. Can we agree that roughly 90-95% of computer problems are do to poorly-written drivers? This includes written by MS or others. The other 5-10% of problems are do to bugs in the OS, 3rd party programs (usually maintainance, AV, or firewall) or hardware. Perhaps one of our member BSOD anylists will back those figures up.

All I'll say is that odds would have it it's drivers that are at fault. If it was an OS bug, which it was before update KB2919394, it would seem that everyone would continue to have problems. On the other hand, we cannot write that in concrete either, can we?!

If it be any help, this is what I found in MS support on drivers. Not too much with 8/8.1. Perhaps someone could scour for more.

Those are my thoughts as of today. Good luck to all.

Your OS & mine are the same.

So I can only assume you have screwed yours up somehow.
David, David, David . . . I'm afraid you're in a thread that the best of the best have done everything possible to fix this issue with the solution evading us all. I'm not including myself in that "best of the best", but I'm no newbie either! Far from it.

And, as we both know, there's the NumLock issue . . . Which does not work on my factory built and unaltered HP Desktop Windows 8 machine; however, a retail version installed on my HP laptop by this not a newbie works without fail on bootup.

Addendum to my last post. Just because users are careful to have the latest drivers does not mean they are working correctly on all machines brands.

And if the blasted drivers don't work, it doesn't mean someone did something wrong!

That is 100%, indisputably true, but for some to go on and blame MS for the woes without knowing what it is isn't right either. MS did release update KB2919394 which fixed many a machine. This is why I think it directs to a driver or drivers. That may include a MS-written driver.

There is a percentage of users that will break there systems, which includes me.

Hopefully soon we can put the last nail in this thread's coffin!

Just an observation that this thread was originally started by user voodoo in July of 2013 and he is long gone as far as I can tell. So, in an effort to avoid reading 91 pages of subsequent responses that may or may not have relevancy to the OPs issue, would it be possible for anyone still having a sleep issue to start their own unique thread so their unique issue can be addressed with some specific relevance to their hardware and software configuration? Now, since most OPs who try to add-on to another OPs issue are quickly advised to start their own thread, I don't see how this one slipped past those many observant eyes but, in any event, I would again recommend that anyone having a sleep issue, that is/was similar to voodoo's original post, please start you own thread so the focus can be given to your specific issue. Good luck to all.

Actually other than a recent troll and some on-topic "venting" I can't see where the technical posts have gone off topic? This thread also has some very valuable on-topic info for those who want to review/search. That said why don't you open a new thread if you don't like this one? Why do you suggest that someone else do it?

Who said the topic had to be deleted? BTW, can you confirm that everyone posting their own unique issue here does, in fact, have the exact same hardware and software configuration? If not, then this thread has been hijacked my friend and any relevance has been so generalized that it most likely is of no use... unless one wants to read through 91 pages of responses. In summary, I will tell you right now that there are many capable people in this forum that will have a fairly easy time of resolving any unique issue... as long as it stays unique and is not hijacked by someone else along the way. Do as you wish from here but my advice is for each individual to start their own thread to have a much better chance of getting their unique issue resolved.

Again, why don't you just go ahead and open a specific thread if you think this one is now too general? Why does someone else need to do it? I don't get it?

Sorry I missed you last unwarranted dig that was directed at me. I don't have to open a thread because I don't have a sleep issue; period! However, if you or anyone else does, I would recommend they do just that!
