My machine slept yesterday. Today it wont.

Even my Win 7 machine which never had an issue wont sleep if the Win 8 laptop is on. 100% related to the other computers on the network. What a bunch of #$%@.

MS logon. Though I have it set so I don't need to enter a password.

As an aside my Win 7 desktop seems to not have an issue sleeping while my Win 8 laptop is active but the reverse is not true. Win 8 laptop doesn't want to sleep if the Win 7 is awake.

Yes, indeed. To solve this kind of sleep issue, you need to leave homegroup for the laptop, and deactivate the file sharing as well.

If you need to move files between your PC'S you can find another way.

To John: I don't condemn anyone. My point is only that power management is not adapted for 8.1. It is frustrating to have nothing in the event log as well.

At least, with previous sleep issues, you could do some powercfg commands like /ENERGY or /REQUESTS and you could see what's happening. Now the PC just don't sleep, with no clues at all, and to solve the problem you need to sacrifice something.

I red about a guy who claimed that was something with hidden devices in device manager. Could be logical, but definitively I suspect a rogue win 8.1 task or process witch is not seen by the power management.

Windows 8.1 offers great performance, but what is make me angry is that the problem is not recognized by MS and they do nothing about it (I think).

    Good night

My Win 8 laptop isn't even in the Homegroup. I'm pretty sure I have File Sharing turned off on all machines.

When you do powercfg /requests on that laptop when this occurs, do you see srvnet?

Try to set your power management to: NORMAL on all machines and with default parameters...

orbitalfenestra, I couldn't have said it better. Every word. In fact earlier I expressed my deep dissatisfaction with the sleep logging issues and no one else would confirm having that problem. I'm still not convinced that you and I may somehow be different from the pack on that one. I really do believe that some (or most) people aren't seeing that problem. I have also seen the logging go from bad to now non-existent after certain updates.

I've done nothing strange to my computer & it sleeps good.

Maybe this sleep problem occurs because people screw up their computers some way.
    Or not.

    Most likely though.

When a computer ships from the factory, it works good.

Once a person gets hold of it the problems crop up.

If one computer sleeps ok & another does not sleep ok, it indicates to me it is the users fault.
Not the OS or the computer's fault.

    I'm ready to get bashed.
    Be gentle.

No need to... since at least it should......... SHOW SOMETHING IN THE EVENT LOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVEN IF I WAS AT FAULT!!!!!!!!!! lol

Anyway, I did a DBAN on my hard drive then I clean installed WIN 8.1 and it's okay for me, but I still can reproduce the problem... just can't solve it.

@ NCGuy Yeah, 98 % of people do not care about sleep. And 1 % would say the magical phrase: "Just do it yourself... let it be" but it's not for me. I can't close my computer when I fall asleep! lol

Yup, I agree. Here are the ways they screw it up:

    1. On a new pc, they install a version of Windows 8. Huge user error. What are they thinking? This was my personal screw up also.

    2. On a Windows 8 preinstall, they screw it up by hitting the power switch. Another user attempting to turn on their machine. Gees don't they know anything?
