Been reading this thread, so I thought I would test my computer & see if it would go to sleep.

It did, at the time set for.

    It worked good.

I can't understand why so many are having problems getting sleep to work.

I use sfc & dism almost daily just to be doing it.
    Maybe that helps.

Sleep functions are working better for me since a recent update (I think perhaps the one dated 2/21/2014). I have Windows 8.1 on an HP Envy machine, just two months old. Originally, sleep seemed hit or miss. It now pretty much stays asleep after I press the sleep button on my keyboard. And goes to sleep by itself after the balanced power time out. As some have reported here, I will wait before declaring this to be an ongoing solution.

David, Ahh, the question of the ages. "What makes you so special?" Indeed, it is a small subset of people affected by no sleep issues with the 8.1 update. Since it occurs on some laptops, different mobos, even a tablet, hardware does not seem a common factor. I and others also found that the sleep issue will start with hardly anything installed so drivers and programs are not really a suspect, although master chief has had us try extensive lists of changes for those willing to do the work. It also is very strange that removing the network adapter will promptly fix the problem.
THEN some of us had sleep fixed with the December MS update while it did not work for all.
I hope the major MS update coming up will finally cure it!

David, I appreciate you taking the time to try it out on your system. I'm glad to know that it works for you. Just out of curiousity, when was the last time that you rebooted your computer prior to testing its sleep function?

    I reboot every day.
It keeps my computer from getting sluggish.

    I never use sleep.
I just tested it to see if it works.

In case it hasnít been listed, here is the update that should fix the issue. #KB2919394. It fixes multiple issues. Strangely it is an optional update, which I believe won't install unless it's chosen and installed manually even though updates are set to download and install automatically.

Double clicking for info and link leads to this general page: Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: February 2014

A few lines down leads to the specific page: Computer never goes to sleep even if the timer is set in Windows 8.1

Has anyone pinpointed the exact adapter thatís blocking sleep or are there multiple?

Applied that update a couple weeks ago. It helps but the pc still won't sleep after nightly maintenance.

Did you try running powercfg -requests to see if anything is preventing sleep?
Is it possible that, after nightly maintenance, it is doing a long virus scan?
Was it sleeping immediately before the nightly maintenance started?
Anything in event log that points to an error when maintenance ran?
