So what I am hearing is that there might have been ONE WHOLE PERSON that the latest update MAY have fixed the sleep issue. Drats.

It fixed mine although I'm not sure yet about sleep after maintenance and sleep for two days doesn't prove anything.

Yes, it fixed mine. Bear in mind my machine had a new clean install on it.

For some reason I can't work out... the machine woke itself bang on 00:00 then went to back to sleep about 60 seconds later. Wake Timers are disabled and my Sleep After time is 10 minutes :/

Been testing my HP Netbook connected over wireless. It sleeps OK but I decided to check its YT clip behaviour before and after the latest update. No change was observed.

With YT in a window, the screen is blanked but the video keeps playing. With YT in full screen, the screen won't blank and the video keeps going which is as it should be.

So I have a desktop that goes straight to sleep in window AND full screen mode and a netbook that seems to behave itself (if you allow that blanking the screen in window mode is sensible!). I personally don't think that screen blanking is a great design 'feature' but it is what Vista does as well.

My system continues to sleep normally since the last update. There is definitely some changes going on and maybe someone can shed some light.

This morning I noticed that my pc was still asleep when normally I find it awake due to maintenance that is scheduled for 2am. Digging deeper I found that maintenance ran at 11am yesterday instead of 2am this morning. The start time still appears to be scheduled for 2am in scheduled tasks and I haven't messed with those settings. I'm not sure if this is an anomaly at this point or if the last update also changed something relating to maintenance.

Also noticed that while my pc is sleeping normally since the last update (3 days ago), the system log has stopped logging the sleep event (both wake and sleep). The last "Kernel-Power" entering sleep event in the log occurred almost a month ago on 1/16/2014. I've seen the reporting of this event come and go and the inconsistencies of what happens under the covers in this OS leaves me with a rather uneasy feeling.

I've had other unrelated issues with this OS. It's really feeling more like the Vista days all the time and I don't think the comparisons are unfair at this point.

Strange about the lack of logging. My sleep/wake logging looks fine.

It seems to come and go for me after updates. This is not the first time this has happened.

Ok, so since the last post my maintenance (on it's own) is running again in the night. It is almost running as as scheduled. It's scheduled to run nightly at 2am but for some reason it prefers to start at 3:30 am. That doesn't bother me but I would like to know why it consistently runs 1.5 hrs late just out of curiosity if anyone has any thoughts. I can tell you the machine is normally asleep at 2am as it was last night when the maintenance apparently started at 3:30am.

So it appears that since the last patch Tuesday update the pc has been sleeping almost per the timer. The exception is that it won't sleep after it has been awakened for maintenance without an intervening reboot. I know this is pretty common but I don't know what people have been doing as workaround? I'm also not sure if its the wake process or the maintenance itself after the wake process that triggers the subsequent no sleep without first rebooting the pc?

Also, FYI the sleep and wake events continue to not be posting to the system log.

    Windows 8.1

I recently learned that if a laptop charger is plugged in windows 8.1 will be very inclined to run background stuff instead of sleeping on time. Supposedly it sleeps more readily while on battery but I haven't tested that yet. While plugged in, I set sleep to at 5 min idle. It slept at about 1 hr idle. I'm glad it at least sleeps, but it seems windows 8.1 likes to do its business when it thinks we're not looking. There also seemed to be other background processes besides auto maintenance that keeps it awake.
