I did my troubleshooting while logging in with my MSFT account. And... my PCs are still sleeping when I'm away for longer than 30 minutes. So, it's still a go for me. This time, it wasn't a temporary solution.

Yes, that's scenario I am running under

    1) Skydrive disabled in Group policy (by enabling the bypass skydrive options)
    2) Skydrive scheduled tasks disabled (seemed to make that extra bit of difference)
    3) skydrive sync disabled via metro settings...

and I am running under a Microsoft account... and sleep is working (I have it set at 45 min)

    good luck
I still haven't done step 2 and 3, and it's still working for me. And it's always on time. Even my hibernation after 60 minutes away works like clockwise.

Boulder, the Group policy probably has been disabled for the users as it is a very powerful command tool. Look for a tutorial here on how to log in as administrator. that should work.
Yep, guys, I just discovered the same thing Boulder did. This HP came with "core" on it, and when I upgrade to 8.1 it will be to Pro. I have the DVDs already, just not the time.

Edit: Since she's sleeping just fine with Win 8, at least I don't have to worry about it until I do upgrade.

Good news! I will wait a while before switching back to the MSFT account. I'm still traumatized by the scars left over from the sleep timer issues.

Lady Dual Boot isn't sleeping and I've enabled what I should in Group Policy, but I can't figure out where to go to "disable the two scheduled tasks". I could look for it, but OMGoodness, I think this makes Post #375!

Can someone tell me which post it is and I'll go get the 'structions?

    Thanks in advance.

Put your mouse on the top corner then search for "scheduled tasks". Unroll the upper left menu until you find "Skydrive" menu, then you should find the 2 related tasks.

As for the 3 options from the group policy, yes you only need to activate the second one but read carefully the other 2. One is for default documents and the other is for offline sync between your computers. Maybe for some reason the PC will try to sync offline or when you'll save a file you'll reactivate a skydrive legacy by accident and sleep will fail again and you won't know why.

I succeed to make Skydrive frack with sleep just by messing around with its metro app (open it) even with the 2nd group policy activated so be warned.

To Prism: me too I'm traumatized by how hard it is to make sleep happen again. Each time I install a fresh copy of windows, i need to go through all this steps and now I got few more since Win 8.1:

    1) My jumpers on my motherboard are not set proprely and It's too late because the one I would need to switch is under my heatsink. Consequence: with a new windows, I need to disable mouse, keyboard and receiver wake capabilities.

    2) install drivers for ethernet, then set the magic packet option or else the ethernet controller prevent sleep.

    3) I can enable network discovery, but not printer and file sharing or else srvnet will prevent sleep each time 2 PCs from my network are opened at the same time.

    Since win 8.1

Need to remove then replug logitech usb unifying receiver then after installing setpoint, disabling mouse keyboard and receiver wake capabilities since setpoint ré enable them.

And now Skydrive issue... Each time I struggled to find a solution, learned about powercfg command, registry, etc... It is just crazy! And i'm sure there is as much stories like mine as Pc's around the world!!! Most gave up long before!!

Indeed,we stood our ground, collaborated, pooled our experiences and in the end, found a true solution. I'm so glad to have stumbled on this forum, we can be proud of what we have achieved!

Prism, did you manage to find an ISO of Win 8.1? With fresh install, the refresh / restore your PC is fixed in the same time too!

I have tried everything here, incl Skydrive settings, and more, and now my machine does sleep but in an erratic way e.g. it can take up to 5 min to sleep after the trigger. That is definitely not an indication that sleep problems are really solved. In my opinion, unless it sleeps within 7 sec every time, it is not working properly. Other earlier versions of windows all worked like this, including the Vista system here.

There is still only one way to get my machine slam dunking every time in 7 sec and that is by stopping the Power svc.

But wait, it gets worse. With Power enabled, my machine ignores a running youtube video and blanks the screen and sleeps at varying times after that. A YT embedded in another site was shutting off in 7 secs reliably. Not what I wanted, though!

I stopped the Power svc and now it doesn't sleep while YT videos are running.

At least in my machine, this points right back to something wrong with how the Power management svc interacts with my machine's workings. It does not control the sleep state properly and can't even tell when the machine is idle. Maybe that last statement sums up the problem as it doesn't sleep when the system is idle and does sleep when it isn't.

Is mine the only one that sleeps while a YT vid is running?

From way too many years of experience, with MS Windows, I can tell you that both Sleep and Hibernation have been full of bugs since day one. Your best bet is to just ignore them both, or disable them. When you're done with your computer for the day, turn it OFF.

Most of us, who have been around a while, use a Quick Shutdown shortcut, to turn our PC's off.

That has been written up time after time on the HELP Forums.

    Good Luck!
