Folks, Do all of the common sleep problem fix in the post 168. These are the easy sleep fixes that work for 95% of people.

Whyona, you cannot really hurt anything by changing these settings. These settings have been proven to prevent sleep so they all have to be done before you can say that you still need help.

    Did you disable power services?
I haven't yet, as when I restarted the pc, it starting sleeping again. I also change power schemes often, when watching videos etc and I'd lose that ability if I turned it power service off. If I get a chance tomorrow, I'll give it try just to see if it works.

One of the reasons I don't turn Power off is that there are times I download a very large file and don't want the computer to go to sleep while downloading, as this will interrupt the download.

Yep, same for me. The are called cough, cough torrents cough, cough. Disabling POWER is NOT on my list. The list is strictly things that need to be done for NORMAL Windows 8 problems with sleep.

I will not be doing the POWER workaround either. It breaks my TuneUp Utilities which I use to do periodic maintenance as well as forces me to wake with password AND prevents me from changing the sleep time. Well, changing sleep time is no big deal SINCE IT DOES NOT SLEEP, is it?

another desperation "Hail Mary Pass" is the Win8.1 fix for laggy and jerky mouse movement in games. I just installed it. Perhaps it was making little jerky movements keeping the computer awake. I am dreaming, but I am still at it!

I have learned a ton of stuff about windows, both in power states and networking so none of this is wasted for me. I LIKE interesting bugs.

FYI, it doesn't interrupt activities such as downloading files or streaming audio and video, at least in my case the timer sleep is paused until any of these activities are accomplished.

David, this was already EDIT on Maximum power settings (default) on my desktop computer. Not sure why you think this might have something to do with sleep. This setting is solely for saving power when running a laptop on batteries. This setting is only used for decreasing the AMOUNT of power on the PCI-E bus when idle and does not turn off any devices under any of the settings. It also can increase the latency for the wake state. Any particular internet source for your question?

BTW, So far, 100% sleep success for a good dozen sleep cycles after installing the mouse stutter/lag/freeze/latency fix here for my Logitech G9 wired mouse: Microsoft KB2907016

    EDIT: NO FIX

Mouse pointer stutters or freezes when you play certain games in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2

    No promises, but...

EDIT 2013-12-28 This did not fix the problem. For me, a MS update on Dec 11th fixed it.

David, Crap, Turns out I accidentally just turned it OFF when I was checking it after your post. I take Faststone captures of any changes I make and archive them and that setting was set on Maximum power settings so it was ON all the time I was testing it. Sorry, tired as I was up all night with Half Life 2. Notice my post just above it on that page. I had to edit it to say my fix did not work so thanks for getting me back there. Earlier today, I had to change a good 15 posts here to say NO FIX so some poor guy would not try my futile advice.

Here are some of the other pages I have checked through:

Dang, watching an old movie Paint Your Wagon while typing. There is Clint Eastwood as a young man SINGING. They even got Lee Marvin to sing too (not very well mind you). Mr. Eastwood was actually not that bad!
