It does one of those Update options and it will allow you to keep your settings and put everything into a .old folder just like a Win7 to Win8 update. I would not recommend it as MS could very easily kill old copies of this tech preview, just like they did with Win8 preview. So far, Win10 is completely compatible with every single program I have installed. Nice of MS not to tell programs that it is a new version of windows so they all get hot and bothered.

NO KEY is needed to install the Win10 preview. It comes already activated, at least the copy I got off of Win Preview site that I linked above. So you can do an update from Win 7 OR 8.

Now if I could just keep my hands off of the computer enough to see if it SLEEPS, I will be a happy man.
Can you do an update direct from 7 to 10 without doing 8 first?

Also, not surprised everything runs since this is really just a UI update. From what I've heard W8 still under the covers.

    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
    supported in offline servicing scenarios.

Lol by defaut it's corrupted! lol I noticed that in Windows 8.1 as well

    Did a dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth but it didn't work...

I would like to know if other may try this experiment.
But does your computer sleep, Orbital!?

I'm thinking of trying Win 10, but this is an HP machine and if I did install it, I'd want to dual boot. Can I do that with UEFI?
Yes it did. But time will tell me if it lasts. I don't recommand to ditch your current OS yet.

That is a big YES TO SLEEP for Win10 on my recalcitrant electrocomputational device. A few more yes votes and this post will finally have a solved sticker attached. The solution is to ditch Win8.1.

NCGuy, yes, from the looks of what I saw during installing Win10, you can go from 7 to Win10 but BACK UP FIRST. Like a clone backup, not just your important files.

Way to go John!!!!!!!! But we will have to wait awhile to be sure won't we John?????

So, we do have the option of installing over our current setup. Mmmm. I could do a fresh install onto my netbook but that wouldn't test the sleep problem as it sleeps OK.

Tempted to image my main machine then do an upgrade. It is, of course, possible that the final version won't install over this one as in win 8 but, hey, that wouldn't be the end of the world.

    Cheers and well done.

Win 10 won't be out until mid to late 2015. TP and Consumer Preview isn't for the masses.

I want to caution you guys. My Windows 8 slept fine for a while after a clean install and over time got worse. You need to let it settle in, run a few maintenance cycles, update cycles etc. Not to mention this is hardly the final code. It could easily be broken again before final release.

Guys, Win10 sleeps. Over a day now and no issues and I do not expect any in the future. No sleep started with Win8.1 install and ended with Win10 install. I don't care about corrupt files, I don't care about why only this machine out of the five I own running Win8.1, it does not matter to me. Sleep is fixed. No more troubleshooting needed!

As for just being a preliminary build, it is working just fine and I will be cloning it over to my Samsung Pro SSD from my EVO in a week or so. All my programs are running and it acts like Win8 so no compatibility issues.

    TADA!

Wow, great news, John. I hope to get mine installed today.

Hopefully, this HUGE thread can now be reduced to one post - "Install win 10"!!!
