While I completely agree, if Win8 sleeps fine (as in my case) but without changing anything else besides formatting and installing Win8.1 sleep is broken this rules out some (dang few) of the variables.

This has been addressed by people in this thread, including me. Completely disabling OneDrive via registry changes and/or OS settings doesn't seem to solve the problem. You'll find the steps followed in earlier posts.

    EDIT:
@linw - Found my notes on the steps I took to disable Skydrive when I tested that idea out...
    1) schedule tasks; MS | Windows | Skydrive | Idle Sync & Routine Maint tasks
    2) metro; skydrive storage space | sync settings | "sync settings/pc" (& backup settings?)
    3) gpedit.msc; computer | Administrative | Windows | Skydrive | Prevent Usage (did all 3)
    4) (my idea); check Task Mgr | Details to see if SkyDrive.exe is running

    (Original Post)

After a day and half of testing I'm here to post that, not surprisingly, this did not work. In addition, when I "upgraded" the local account to a MS account it did NOT keep the original user name on the computer as I indicated in my original post I had read it would. My local username was changed to that of the MS account. (Kinda' ticks me off 'cuz I was hoping I found a way to use the same one-word username on the 8.1 computer I use on all my other computers. The MS account forces you to enter a first and last name which is then used in full to some extent on the computer.)

Thanks, Gork. Trouble is, with so many contributions we just get lost trying to remember who has already done what!!
No point in flogging this dead horse.

I'm back to a local login with perfect sleep again!

Who does need a MS. Account on a PC anyway? It's totally useless.

You have a point if you don't want to use the app store or onedrive. But, if you do.........

You still can use the app store on a local account. You just need to enter your password each time you want to install an app. It works very well. As for Onedrive, I use Google Drive and box instead. And they are embeded in Windows explorer. There are many solutions to avoid using native MS crap. But yeah, it depends on how you use your PC, but my point is just there are plenty of alternatives.

Good day to all of you frustrated Win 8.1 users!! XD

I've tried the app store but it demands I sign in to an MS account or create one after you enter your local password.

Actually I don't think anything you mentioned will automatically sync all of your files in windows.
